Welcome dear travel fans! I've been traveling around the world for 20 years and most of my trips were to Asia. I think I am crazy about Asia since I was a child and will be happy to share this passion with you...
Malá Strana is one of the most interesting and picturesque old districts of Prague. We started our walk around that district with Kampa Island.
Kampa Island is considered to be one of the most beautiful sites of Prague and is called the Venice of Prague. Kampa Island is separated from Malá Strana by the river arm Devil´s Stream (Čertovka). It is supposedly to be named after a washwoman who lived there and had a wicked tongue.
The island is remarkable for its very picturesque narrow streets and a water mill with the biggest 8-meter large mill-wheel. Passing through the so-called Lennon Wall and Maltese Square we made our way toward the St. Nicholas Church.
From the St. Nicholas Church we made our way toward the Wallenstein garden. Frankly speaking, it was hard to find the entrance and we were ready to give up and go away. But at last we found it near the Malostranska metro station.
The Wallenstein garden is the first and the most magnificent palace garden in Prague. It is remarkable for its amazing sculptures, alleys, a pond and a large artificial cave.
The garden of the Wallenstein palace is open for visitors and free of charge.
After the gardens we made our way to Prague Castle passing through Nerudova Street. Nerudova Street is a picturesque street where you can find many restaurants and souvenir shops.
But the most remarkable feature of the street is the house signs. The house numbers were introduced in Prague in 1770. Before that the houses were recognized by their signs. And Nerudova street has a large number of houses with very interesting signs.
Here you can see the houses with such signs as “At the Golden Key”, “At the Three Fiddles” and many others. View more photos of Malá Strana in the “Photos of Prague” section. After going up the hill on which Nerudova Street is located we found ourselves in Prague Castle.
