Alexei Novak – First encounter with the Czech Republic in 2005 My acquaintance with the Czech Republic began with an unexpected inheritance – a distant relative left me a small house in a picturesque village near Brno. I planned to quickly process the documents and sell the property, but fate had other plans. When I first stepped over the threshold of this ancient house with its tiled roof, a strange feeling came over me, as if I had returned home. Apple trees bloomed in the garden, neighbors brought homemade bread and told stories about my ancestor – a Czech musician. Deciding to stay for a few months, I hardly noticed how they turned into almost 20 years of life between Prague and the towns of Moravia, where I constantly discover new facets of this country. The Czech Republic is multifaceted. Behind the postcard views of Prague and the famous beer lies a deep culture that often remains unnoticed by ordinary tourists. Those who find an approach to the locals discover a completely different country – not the one shown in guidebooks. Over these years I have conducted hundreds of tours to little-known corners of the Czech Republic and written two books on Czech cuisine and traditions. I've had the opportunity to consult for historical films shot in the Czech Republic and create an educational program about Czech culture. I help tourists in difficult situations and share my knowledge with everyone who wants to see the real Czech Republic – a country where every stone breathes history, and every mug of beer can be the beginning of an amazing friendship.

A land of medieval castles, ancient cobblestone streets, and villages that look like they’ve stepped out of a fairy tale. This unique blend of history, culture, and romance makes it the perfect destination for couples wanting to begin their shared life together in a truly special place.

Unlike other classic honeymoon destinations, Czech Republic offers an authentic experience at more reasonable prices, without compromising on charm and romance. Every city and village tells a unique story, from the magical streets of Prague to the picturesque villages of South Bohemia.

Prague – The Capital of Romance

Prague, known as the “City of a Hundred Spires,” is undoubtedly the beating heart of Czech romance. This stunning city combines beautiful architecture, flowing rivers, and a magical atmosphere that’s hard to find anywhere else.

Bridges of Love

Charles Bridge (Karlův most) is undoubtedly Prague’s most romantic symbol. This 14th-century Gothic bridge, stretching 516 meters, connects the Old Town with the Lesser Town (Malá Strana). The best times to stroll across the bridge are early morning (before 8 AM), when tourists haven’t yet arrived, or late evening hours, when the bridge is romantically illuminated.

The bridge features 30 Baroque statues telling stories of saints and heroes. The two most famous statues are those of John of Nepomuk – touching the statue brings good luck and promises your return to Prague. Many couples use this spot for unique romantic photos.

Lovers Bridge (Most milovaných) in Kampa Park has become a popular symbol of love. Couples from around the world hang love locks on the bridge’s railing as a symbol of their eternal love.

Professional Tip: Bring your own lock from home – it’s cheaper, and you can engrave something personal on it beforehand.

Prague’s Romantic Districts

Lesser Town (Malá Strana) is Prague’s most romantic district. Its narrow, picturesque cobblestone streets, charming cafés, and stunning views of the castle on the hill create an intimate and special atmosphere. It’s recommended to explore the area on foot and plan a stop at one of the cafés with river and castle views.

Old Town (Staré Město) offers a perfect combination of history and romance. Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí) with the famous Prague Astronomical Clock (Orloj) creates a perfect backdrop for couple photos. The clock operates every hour between 9:00-23:00, and it’s recommended to plan your visit to see the performance.

Prague Castle (Pražský hrad) is one of the world’s largest castles and offers stunning views of the city.

  • Entry: Free access to castle grounds
  • Basic Circuit: St. Vitus Cathedral, Old Royal Palace, St. George’s Basilica, Golden Lane
  • Prices: 450 CZK for adults, 300 CZK for seniors over 65 or students

  • Price: Approximately 1,200 CZK per person, including meal and show
  • Important Note: Not suitable for those with claustrophobia or families with small children

  • Price: Approximately 400 CZK per person, including a drink
  • Recommendation: Book in advance and choose the sunset cruise (usually 18:00-19:00 in summer)

What Makes This Place Special

Český Krumlov has preserved its authentic character since the 13th century. Its architecture is a perfect blend of Renaissance and Baroque styles, and the town is so small you can cross it on foot in 20-30 minutes. This is exactly what makes it perfect for a honeymoon – intimate, romantic, and accessible.

  • Book in advance, especially during summer months

Karlovy Vary – Spa Romance

Important Tip: The water is hot! Don’t make the mistake of drinking quickly on your first try. Buy a special cup with a filter (starting from 200 CZK) or rent one temporarily. Drinking the water should be slow and in small sips.

Couples Spa Treatments are available at most hotels and major centers. Prices start at 1,500 CZK for one hour of couples treatment. Recommended to book in advance.

When to Visit – Seasons

Spring (April-May)

This is the perfect season for a honeymoon in Czech Republic. The weather is pleasant and not too hot, gardens and parks bloom with flowers, and prices haven’t yet reached summer peaks. This is also cherry blossom season in Prague, creating a romantic and magnificent landscape.

  • Temperatures: 10-20 degrees Celsius
  • Clothing: Ideal for layering

Summer (June-August)

Summer, with its long days, is perfect for excursions, but consider that it’s also the busiest tourist season. Places like Český Krumlov and Prague Castle can be crowded.

  • Weather: Pleasant (20-25 degrees Celsius)
  • Perfect for Outdoor Activities: River cruises and forest hikes

Autumn (September-October)

Autumn offers the best combination – fewer crowds, magnificent autumn colors, and still pleasant weather for trips. This is the preferred season for tourism professionals to visit Czech Republic.

  • Temperatures: 15-20 degrees Celsius
  • Scenery: Colorful autumn leaves are unforgettable

Winter (November-March)

Although winter is colder (0-5 degrees Celsius), Czech Republic in winter is especially beautiful. Prague’s Christmas markets are among Europe’s most beautiful, and prices are lower. This is ideal for couples who love romantic winter atmosphere and want to save money.

Budget

A couple can enjoy a wonderful honeymoon in Czech Republic on a budget of 2,000-3,000 CZK (about $80-120) per day, including accommodation, food, and attractions. This is much cheaper than other European honeymoon destinations like Paris or Venice, while still offering a rich and romantic experience.

Money-Saving Options

  • Combo Attraction Tickets: Save 20-30%
  • Eat at Local Pubs instead of tourist restaurants
  • Stay Outside Major City Centers

Large Czech Portions: Czech portions are large and filling. One dish can be enough for two people, so don’t be shy about asking to share.

Czech Republic offers a perfect combination of history, natural beauty, and romance at reasonable prices that make it an ideal honeymoon destination. From magical castles through picturesque villages to unique culinary and cultural experiences, every couple will find the perfect recipe for a romantic start to married life.

Czech Republic awaits you with open arms, with its stories, its castles, and its eternal romance. This is the place where your honeymoon will become the beginning of a love story that will last a lifetime.
