Roman wall in Barcelona

By all means the Romans were the first architects of Barcelona a long time before Gaudi. In the 1^st century BC they founded a city there. Even nowadays a lot of remains of the Roman wall built by Romans in the 3^rd and 4^th centuries AD can be seen in the Gothic Quarter of the city. The remains in such streets and squares as Placa de Ramon, Berenguer el Gran и Carrer del Sotstinent Navarro have withstood the ravages of time better than in other places.

Many buildings were constructed on the base of the Roman wall, e.g. Casa de la Pia Almonia located in Avinguda de la Catedral. The building got its final form in the 15^th century. Today the museum of religious art is housed in it. The entrance fee is 6 euro and it’s open from Tuesday to Saturday 10.00 a.m. – 2.00 p.m. and 5.00 p.m. – 8.00 p.m. and Sunday – 11.00 a.m. – 2.00 p.m.
