Christmas Markets in Spain 2026

In Spain, Christmas comes with some unusual traditions. In Barcelona, people buy funny wooden logs with painted faces that, according to local tradition, bring presents to children. In Seville, families build entire miniature Christmas villages, while in Madrid, shoppers look for joke gifts for the December 28 holiday. Christmas markets are a great place to discover these customs, try Spanish sweets and find handmade gifts from local artisans. Spain Christmas Market Dates for 2026–2027

Plaza Mayor Christmas Market in Madrid (Mercado de Navidad de Plaza Mayor)

• Dates: Late November to December 31, 2026
• Location: Plaza Mayor, Madrid’s historic center

At the end of November, 104 red market stalls are set up in Plaza Mayor. They cover almost the entire square, while still leaving plenty of room to walk around. Historic buildings with arcades and long rows of balconies surround the square, which fills with Christmas shoppers.

Most of the stalls sell items for belén, the traditional Spanish Nativity scene. You’ll find figures of people and animals, tiny houses, fountains and all sorts of details for building entire miniature villages. There are also toys, musical instruments and joke gifts for the Day of the Holy Innocents, celebrated in Spain on December 28.

Puerta del Sol is just a few minutes’ walk from Plaza Mayor. Along the way, you’ll pass old pastry shops and chocolate cafés where you can stop for a break and try some local sweets.

Madrid Christmas Crafts Fair (Feria Mercado de Artesanía)

• Dates: December 1–30, 2026
• Location: Paseo de Recoletos, Madrid

Every December, artisans from across the Madrid region gather on Paseo de Recoletos. Each brings their own creations, so even browsing the stalls is interesting.

Some sell hand-painted ceramic tableware, while others make leather bags and wallets. You’ll also find jewelry, glassware, wooden items and textiles. The selection ranges from traditional crafts to modern designer pieces.

The stalls line a wide boulevard near Plaza de Cibeles and the National Library of Spain. Several of Madrid’s major art museums are also in this area.

Santa Llúcia Christmas Market in Barcelona (Fira de Santa Llúcia)

• Dates: November 20 – December 23, 2026
• Location: Avenida de la Catedral, near Barcelona Cathedral

At the Santa Llúcia Christmas Market, you’ll find some of the most unusual Christmas souvenirs in Spain. Among them are the Caganer and Tió de Nadal, two characters that play an important role in Catalan Christmas traditions.

The Caganer is a small figure of a person in a rather funny squatting position. Traditionally, it’s placed in a Nativity scene. Tió de Nadal is even more unusual: a wooden log with a painted face and a little red hat. According to Catalan tradition, it brings presents to children.

Besides these characters, stalls sell Christmas decorations, miniature houses, animal figures, decorative plants and Christmas musical instruments.

Fira de Santa Llúcia dates back to the 18th century and takes place in front of Barcelona Cathedral. After visiting the market, you can wander through the narrow streets of the Gothic Quarter.

Sagrada Família Christmas Market (Fira de Nadal de la Sagrada Família)

• Dates: November 29 – December 23, 2026
• Location: Plaça de la Sagrada Família, Barcelona

In the weeks before Christmas, a whole market selling live plants appears near the Sagrada Família. Stalls are filled with small fir trees, mistletoe, evergreen wreaths and ready-made Christmas arrangements. You can also buy candles, Christmas tree ornaments and Nativity figures.

The market occupies a green square with walking paths. Behind the trees, you can see the tall towers and unusual façades of Gaudí’s famous basilica, making this a great spot for photos.

Many visitors stop at the market on their way to tour the Sagrada Família. It’s easy to spend a little time browsing the stalls before or after visiting the basilica.

Paseo del Parque Christmas Market in Málaga (Mercado Navideño del Paseo del Parque)

• Dates: December 1, 2026 – January 7, 2027
• Location: Paseo del Parque, Málaga

A Christmas market surrounded by palm trees? In Málaga, that’s perfectly normal. Wooden market stalls line a park walkway surrounded by tall palms, ficus trees and other subtropical plants.

The market is considered one of the oldest in the city. Stalls sell toys, books, Christmas decorations, Nativity figures and sweets. One of the most popular treats is turrón, a traditional Spanish sweet made with nuts, honey and sugar.

The city port is a short walk from the park, so you can stroll along the waterfront and look at the yachts. In the evening, head to Calle Larios. This street is famous for its Christmas lights, which attract visitors to central Málaga even from nearby towns.

Seville Nativity Scene Christmas Market (Feria del Belén)

• Dates: November 8 – December 23, 2026
• Location: Avenida de la Constitución and Calle Fray Ceferino González, near Seville Cathedral

Seville’s Feria del Belén is dedicated entirely to Christmas Nativity scenes. Some of the pieces are so detailed that you could easily mistake them for museum exhibits.

The stalls display tiny bakeries filled with bread, vegetable shops, houses with balconies, small bridges, staircases and fountains. You’ll also find figures of people wearing traditional clothes. These pieces can be combined to create entire miniature Christmas villages.

Some Spanish families spend years adding to their Nativity scenes at home, buying new pieces every Christmas. A visit to Feria del Belén makes it easy to see why this hobby is so popular.

The market takes place in Seville’s historic center, close to Seville Cathedral and the General Archive of the Indies.

Basque Christmas Crafts Market in Bilbao (Gabonart)

• Dates: December 11, 2026 – January 5, 2027
• Location: Muelle del Arenal, Bilbao waterfront

Bilbao has its own Christmas crafts market called Gabonart. Its name comes from the Basque word Gabon, meaning Christmas.

Artisans from across the Basque Country come here to sell wooden crafts, ceramic tableware, jewelry, textiles and leather accessories. There are plenty of small handmade decorative items, too.

The market is organized by Arbaso, an association that supports local artisans and helps introduce their work to shoppers.

The stalls are set up along the waterfront near Arenal Bridge. Just a short walk away is Casco Viejo, Bilbao’s Old Town, with its many bars serving traditional Basque pintxos. The famous Ribera Market is also in this area.

Plaza de la Reina Christmas Crafts Market in Valencia (Feria de Artesanía de Navidad)

• Dates: November 27, 2026 – January 6, 2027
• Location: Plaza de la Reina, Valencia’s historic center

Valencia is famous for its ceramics, and you’ll find plenty of them at the Christmas market in Plaza de la Reina. Look out for hand-painted serving dishes, decorative plates, small home accessories and ornaments.

Other stalls sell fabric bags, leather goods and modern designer accessories. If you’re looking for an unusual gift from Spain, it’s worth checking out the work of local craftspeople.

The market sits right next to Valencia Cathedral. Cafés and restaurants surround the square, while the Central Market and La Lonja de la Seda, one of the city’s best-known historic buildings, are nearby.

City of Arts and Sciences Christmas Market in Valencia (Mercado de Navidad de la Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias)

• Dates: December 12, 2026 – January 6, 2027
• Location: Paseo de Arbotantes del Umbracle, Valencia

Valencia’s second well-known Christmas market takes place at the City of Arts and Sciences. The setting is completely different here, with enormous white buildings in unusual shapes, pools of water and wide pedestrian areas.

Stalls sell gifts, Christmas decorations and handmade crafts. There are also street food stands, while families with children can enjoy creative workshops and other activities.

Since the market is part of a large cultural complex, there’s plenty more to do nearby. You can visit the Science Museum, watch a film at the Hemisfèric cinema or explore the Oceanogràfic aquarium.

Plaza de Anaya Christmas Market in Salamanca (Mercado Navideño de Plaza de Anaya)

• Dates: November 26, 2026 – January 5, 2027
• Location: Plaza de Anaya, Salamanca

Salamanca is known for its golden sandstone buildings. Its historic cathedrals are especially beautiful, and the Christmas market takes place right beside them in Plaza de Anaya.

For the 2026–2027 season, 39 market stalls are planned. They’ll sell wooden toys, Christmas tree decorations, sweets and gifts made by local artisans. There’s also a traditional carousel next to the market that’s sure to catch children’s attention.

From the square, it’s an easy walk to the old university quarter. There you’ll find the famous university façade, covered in intricate carvings. Walk a little farther and you’ll reach Salamanca’s main square, Plaza Mayor, surrounded by beautiful arcades.

Granada Christmas Market (Mercado de Navidad de Bib-Rambla)

• Dates: December 1, 2026 – January 6, 2027
• Location: Plaza Bib-Rambla, Granada

One of the first things you’ll notice at Granada’s Christmas market is the selection of Andalusian-style crafts. There are painted ceramics, decorative pieces with geometric patterns and small souvenirs featuring Moorish-inspired designs. They reflect the Moorish traditions that have left their mark on local art.

You’ll also find the usual Christmas items, including toys, decorations, sweets and handmade products from local artisans.

The market takes place in Plaza Bib-Rambla, near Granada Cathedral. Afterwards, you can visit the Alcaicería, a former Arab trading quarter. Its narrow streets are still filled with small shops selling ceramics, souvenirs and other goods.

Burgos Christmas Crafts Market (Mercado Navideño de Oficios Artesanos)

• Dates: November 28, 2026 – January 5, 2027
• Location: Plaza Mayor, Burgos

The Burgos Christmas Market introduces visitors to the traditional crafts of Castile and León. It’s organized by the FOACAL federation, and the 2026–2027 season will mark its 29th edition.

The stalls offer ceramic tableware, leather goods, textiles, jewelry and home accessories. Many vendors make their products themselves using traditional craft techniques.

The market takes place in a square in the old part of Burgos. From here, it’s a short walk to the famous Gothic Burgos Cathedral. Its richly carved stone façades and tall towers make it one of the city’s main attractions.

Burgos can get quite cold in winter. After exploring the market, you can warm up in a local café and try some traditional Castilian dishes.

Plaza de las Tendillas Christmas Market in Córdoba (Mercado de Navidad de Plaza de las Tendillas)

• Dates: November 8 – December 22, 2026
• Location: Plaza de las Tendillas, Córdoba

Plaza de las Tendillas is in one of Córdoba’s busiest shopping areas. In the run-up to Christmas, the square fills with stalls selling toys, festive decorations, gifts and handmade crafts.

The local sweets are particularly worth trying. Look out for polvorones and mantecados, crumbly cookies traditionally eaten in Spain at Christmas. If you’ve never tried them before, you can buy a small pack to sample.

Streets leading into Córdoba’s Old Town begin near the square. Along the way, you’ll pass historic buildings, small courtyards and narrow lanes. Continue walking and you’ll reach the famous Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba and the Roman Bridge.

Valladolid Christmas Crafts Market (Mercado Artesanal Navideño)

• Dates: November 26, 2026 – January 5, 2027
• Location: Plaza Mayor, Valladolid

In Valladolid, the Christmas market takes place in the city’s main square, surrounded by red façades and covered walkways. Before the holidays, stalls are set up here for local artisans to sell their work.

The selection includes ceramic tableware, jewelry, textiles, wooden accessories and home decorations. You’ll find both traditional handmade items and modern designer pieces.

After visiting the market, you can explore the nearby pedestrian streets. Valladolid’s historic center has plenty of small shops and cafés where you can relax after shopping.
