Sections:
Bird Watching and Wildlife More than 300 bird species can be observed, including pink flamingos (the only place in France where flamingos nest), herons, and ibis. The Pont des Gault Ornithological Park is perfect for photographers and wildlife enthusiasts, who can get up close to these birds from observation towers and themed trails.
Camargue Horses and Bulls Known for its iconic white horses and black bulls, the park offers a glimpse into the traditional way of raising livestock in the Camargue. The manades (herds) roam freely, and in some areas, visitors can even ride these famous horses and watch unique local bullfights where the bullfighter pulls a tuft from the bull’s horns.
Salt Marshes and Sansouïres The Camargue is famous for its salt marshes and sansouïres (salt plains), which create a landscape unique to the region. Visitors can explore these areas on foot or by bicycle along designated trails, experiencing the natural beauty and tranquility of the region.
Best Season Spring (April-May) and fall (September-October) are ideal, with mild weather, fewer mosquitoes, and a good chance of seeing flamingos and other migratory birds. Summer is popular but hot, with more mosquitoes.
Transportation The park is accessible by car, but there are also routes for bicycling and horseback riding. Guided tours are available to help visitors better understand the park’s ecology.
Advice for Visitors
