Christmas Markets in Prague 2026

By late November, wooden chalets start popping up across Prague’s squares, cozy winter drinks return to café menus, and an evening stroll through the center will almost inevitably lead you to at least one Christmas market. The most famous ones are in Old Town and New Town, but I wouldn’t stop there: Vinohrady hosts lovely neighborhood fairs, while Holešovice is great for catching markets featuring Czech designers and local brands.

Old Town & New Town: Prague’s Main Christmas Markets

Start right in the center. You will find three markets here that are easy to connect into a single walk: Republic Square (Náměstí Republiky), Old Town Square, and Wenceslas Square.

Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí)

• Dates: November 28, 2026 – January 6, 2027
• Location: Staroměstské náměstí, Prague 1

This is Prague’s flagship Christmas market and the iconic square you see in nearly all winter photos of the city. A towering Christmas tree is set up in the center, surrounded by wooden stalls offering festive food, warm drinks, tree ornaments, glassware, ceramics, and handcrafted goods by Czech artisans.

I recommend visiting both during the day and closer to the evening. Daytime makes it easier to browse the stalls and take a relaxed stroll, but once darkness falls, the festive lights turn on and the square takes on a whole new charm.

Wenceslas Square (Václavské náměstí)

• Dates: November 28, 2026 – January 6, 2027
• Opening hours: 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM
• Location: Václavské náměstí, Prague 1

Wenceslas Square is an easy walk from Old Town Square. The festive stalls are located at the lower end of the square, selling goods from Czech workshops, holiday gifts, and street food. Live music, choral performances, and family events run throughout the season. According to the city’s official tourism portal, stalls are open daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

The atmosphere here feels distinctly urban, framed by shops, hotels, restaurants, and a steady stream of people. Wenceslas Square fits seamlessly into a downtown walking route-there is no need to set aside half a day specifically for it.

Republic Square (Náměstí Republiky)

• Dates: November 25 – December 24, 2026
• Location: Náměstí Republiky, Prague 1

This market sits right next to the Powder Tower, the Municipal House, and the Palladium shopping center. If you are exploring the center, it is hard to miss.

It is noticeably more compact than the previous two. The stalls sell Advent wreaths, candles, ornaments, toys, sweets, nativity scenes, artisan crafts, and classic seasonal food.

How to Visit All Three Center Markets

The easiest route to follow:

Republic Square (Náměstí Republiky) → Old Town Square → Wenceslas Square.

You will not need any public transport between these spots. The route takes you straight through the historic center anyway, so the markets become a natural part of a casual city walk rather than a separate, rigid itinerary.

If you are short on time, feel free to skip Republic Square and focus on the two main squares.

Vinohrady: Smaller Markets and a More Relaxed Prague

The atmosphere here is on a completely different scale. Instead of massive squares, you will find cozy neighborhood markets frequented by locals living on neighboring streets. The two key spots are Peace Square (Náměstí Míru) and Tyl Square (Tylovo náměstí). They sit close to one another and link together effortlessly for a single walk.

Peace Square (Náměstí Míru)

• Dates: November 20 – December 24, 2026
• Opening hours: 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM
• Location: Náměstí Míru, Vinohrady, Prague 2

This market opens earlier than the others, kicking off on November 20. It is set right in front of the neo-Gothic Church of St. Ludmila, which serves as a gorgeous backdrop for the wooden stalls and evening lights.

The stalls feature holiday ornaments, candles, ceramics, woodwork, glassware, small gifts, and seasonal comfort food. It is far more modest in scale than Old Town Square, but browsing and walking around is much more pleasant and relaxed.

Tyl Square (Tylovo náměstí)

• Dates: November 26 – December 24, 2026
• Location: Tylovo náměstí, Vinohrady, Prague 2

Tylovo náměstí is even smaller. You will not find a towering tree or a packed program of performances here-it is simply an authentic neighborhood market with a modest row of stalls, street food, warm drinks, and goods from local vendors.

Its biggest advantage is just how close it is to Náměstí Míru. There is no real reason to trek across town just for this spot, but strolling over from Peace Square is easy. It makes for a peaceful evening in Vinohrady without the constant need to head back to the crowded tourist core.

Is It Worth Making a Special Trip to Vinohrady?

If you only have one day in Prague, not necessarily.

If you are staying for two or three days, though, Vinohrady is well worth adding to your plans-especially if you would rather not spend every evening shoulder-to-shoulder on the city’s busiest streets.

And if your hotel or apartment happens to be in this area, it is even simpler: you can easily save Náměstí Míru and Tylovo náměstí for the evening once your daytime itinerary is done.

Holešovice brings a completely different vibe to the table. The main reason to head out here is for the pop-up design markets held at Holešovická tržnice-a former industrial complex that today serves as a venue for markets, restaurants, events, and cultural projects.

• Dates: November 28–29, 2026
• Location: Holešovická tržnice, Prague 7

MINT Market runs for just a single weekend. It brings together local brands and independent designers offering clothing, jewelry, accessories, cosmetics, ceramics, home décor, and small gifts. If you are looking to take home something modern and crafted by a local brand, this is a much more rewarding stop than standard souvenir shops.

Dyzajn Market Zima

• Dates: December 12–13, 2026
• Location: Holešovická tržnice, Prague 7

This is another great market for original, designer gifts: clothing, jewelry, bags, ceramics, cosmetics, candles, toys, and home items.

If you have already checked out the classic Christmas markets and want to spend a few hours doing something entirely different, Holešovice is an ideal fit. You can browse the market stalls first, then stick around the neighborhood for lunch or an evening out.

Christmas Lemarket: Another Spot for Local Design

• Dates: December 11–13, 2026 (per the Prague City Tourism calendar)
• Opening hours: 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Christmas Lemarket focuses on local brands, designers, and small creative projects. The organizers describe it as a curated market of local design, bringing together a wide range of creators every year for its holiday edition.

This is the place to hunt for clothing, jewelry, accessories, ceramics, and homeware. While traditional holiday fairs are better suited for an atmospheric evening stroll, Lemarket is designed specifically for shopping.

Karlín: A One-Day Neighborhood Market

The Karlín Christmas Market takes place for just one day-on December 6, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Karlín gives you a great excuse to venture outside the historic center and spend a few hours exploring one of Prague’s most walkable and vibrant modern neighborhoods.

It works especially well as a daytime stop: check out the market stalls, stop for lunch in the area, and head back toward the main Christmas squares later in the evening.
