The Christmas season in Finland begins in November. Markets featuring local producers, craft fairs, food stalls, and small design markets start opening across the country. Some run for several weeks, while others last just two or three days. In 2026, Christmas markets take place in Helsinki, Tampere, Turku, Kuopio, Porvoo, and other Finnish cities.

Tampere

  • Dates: November 21 – December 22, 2026
  • Opening hours: Daily, 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM

The Christmas market takes place in the central Keskustori Square, at Keskustori 1. Small wooden stalls sell Finnish souvenirs, jewelry, handmade crafts, and Christmas baked goods. Among them is Glögi Restaurant, serving hot drinks and seasonal dishes. In the evenings, Christmas lights illuminate the square.

The market opens in stages. The first stalls and cafés open on November 21, and the full market is open from November 28.

Christmas Markets in Finland

Porvoo

  • Event: Porvoo Christmas Path
  • Dates: December 4–22, 2026

Porvoo’s Christmas events are part of the Porvoo Christmas Path program. Market stalls line the Itäinen Rantapromenadi waterfront. At Market Square (Kauppatori), visitors can grab something to eat and enjoy a Christmas sauna. There’s also a carousel for children.

Small shops, pastry shops, and cafés remain open in the old town. With its wooden houses and cobblestone streets, this part of Porvoo needs little extra Christmas decoration.

Lahti

Lahti Christmas Village

  • Dates: December 13–21, 2026
  • Location: Market Square (Kauppatori), Lahti

This small Christmas village has market stalls selling festive treats and handmade products. A Christmas tree stands in the square, and live performances take place throughout the event.

Lahti also has its own Christmas lighting tradition. Along Aleksanterinkatu, festive decorations designed by Tapani Aartomaa in 1983 still hang above the street.

After the market ends, Turku holds its traditional Declaration of Christmas Peace on December 24. This is a long-standing city ceremony.

Oulu

Tiernatori Christmas Market

  • Dates: Not yet announced for 2026
  • Location: To be confirmed

Last season, the market was held at Kauppurienaukio, near the Valkea shopping centre. This year’s location has yet to be confirmed. Tiernatori sells local souvenirs, handmade crafts, and festive food products.

Oulu is also known for the Tiernapojat tradition, which involves costumed musical performances during the Christmas season. Christmas Forest, a festive display of Christmas trees, is also usually set up in the city centre at Rotuaari Square.

Christmas Markets in Finland

Rauma

  • Dates: November 21 – December 24, 2026, on selected days
  • Address: Kauppatori, Kuninkaankatu, 26100 Rauma

Rauma’s Christmas market takes place in the heart of Old Rauma, a UNESCO-listed district known for its wooden buildings.

The market sells food, gifts, and handmade crafts. On Saturdays, Santa Claus visits the square, and visitors can roast sausages or marshmallows over an open fire. The market isn’t open every day, so it’s worth checking the city’s event schedule before planning your visit.
