Tivoli Gardens (Tivoli Have) is the crown jewel of Christmas markets, not just in Copenhagen but across Europe. This historic amusement park, one of the oldest in the world, is transformed into a winter wonderland adorned with thousands of twinkling lights, snow-covered roofs, and smoking chimneys. CNN ranks it among the world’s best Christmas markets.

At Tivoli, visitors can immerse themselves in a genuine Christmas atmosphere, complete with snow, Christmas trees, festive decorations, and the delightful aroma of cinnamon and traditional Danish pastries. The park boasts over 70,000 Christmas ornaments, and approximately 50 Christmas pavilions offer a wide array of holiday-themed goods.

A highlight is the large “Alpine Inn” located next to the Alpine Express, where guests can enjoy traditional winter beverages. Children can ride a special Santa Claus train, along with numerous carousels and attractions designed for the winter season.

Transportation and Getting Around

Metro — The easiest way to access the markets is by taking the metro. Most markets are situated in the city center, close to Kongens Nytorv station. From there, it’s just a 2-3 minute walk to the markets at Kongens Nytorv Square and in Nyhavn.

Copenhagen Card — This tourist card offers unlimited travel on all public transport and free entry to over 80 museums and attractions. If you plan to explore more than just the markets, the card will quickly pay for itself.

Walking — All central markets are within a 5-10 minute walk of each other, making it easy to visit several in one day.
