Christmas Markets in Copenhagen 2026
Christmas markets in Copenhagen are all quite different from one another. In the city center, you’ll find the classic wooden stalls with gløgg and sweets, while other neighborhoods host design markets, and Tivoli turns into a huge Christmas wonderland in November and December.
Below, I’ve put together the most interesting Christmas markets in Copenhagen for the 2026 season. Some are famous places that almost every tourist visits, while others are smaller local markets that many visitors never make it to.
Copenhagen’s Main Christmas Markets
Christmas in Tivoli Gardens
- Dates: November 13, 2026 to January 3, 2027
If you want to see Christmas in Copenhagen on the biggest scale, head to Tivoli. Calling it a regular Christmas market doesn’t really do it justice.
By winter, the entire park is decorated. Christmas trees, lights, festive decorations, and small market stalls appear everywhere. The rides keep running, cafés and restaurants stay open, and you can buy sweets, hot drinks, and gifts.
Come here later in the day. Tivoli looks especially beautiful after dark, when all the lights are switched on.
Admission is paid. On the plus side, the Christmas season here lasts longer than at most markets in the city, all the way until January 3, 2027.
Nytorv & Gammeltorv Christmas Market
- Dates: November 6 to December 21, 2026
Nytorv and Gammeltorv are a good choice if you want a classic Christmas market with wooden stalls, hot drinks, and gifts.
Both squares are right in the city center, close to Strøget. Entry is free, so it’s easy to stop by while you’re already out walking around.
In 2026, Nytorv will also have a free ice rink. You can rent skates on the spot.
From here, it’s easy to continue on foot. Højbro Plads, Kongens Nytorv, and Nyhavn are all relatively close, so you can see several Christmas spots in one walk.

- Dates: November 14 to December 20, 2026
Højbro Plads is right next to Strøget, so you probably won’t need to go out of your way to find this market. If you’re walking around the center, chances are you’ll already be nearby.
In 2026, the market is being held in a new format. The program and decorations will include more themes connected with Denmark, the Faroe Islands, and Greenland.
The stalls sell Christmas decorations, food, gifts, and handmade items.
I especially like this place in the evening. The square is small, it’s surrounded by old buildings, everything is lit up, and you can walk to the next market in just a few minutes.
Christmas Market at Rådhuspladsen
- Starts: December 11, 2026
Another Christmas market opens right in front of Copenhagen City Hall at Rådhuspladsen.
The square fills with wooden stalls, Christmas trees, and festive decorations. You’ll find hot drinks, seasonal food, and gifts. Entry is free.
Tivoli is right nearby, and from there you can continue toward Nytorv and Gammeltorv.

Nyhavn Christmas Market
- 2026 dates: Not yet announced
Nyhavn is worth visiting in winter even without a large Christmas market. The colorful houses, old ships, canal, and strings of lights already create the right atmosphere. It’s especially beautiful in the evening, when the lights come on.
During the Christmas season, small stalls usually appear along the waterfront selling hot drinks, food, and gifts.
The market itself isn’t one of the biggest in Copenhagen, but the setting is so good that I’d still include Nyhavn in a winter walk.
Christmas Market in Christiania
- 2026 dates: Not yet announced
For a completely different atmosphere, head to Christiania. The Christmas market is usually held inside Den Grå Hal. You’ll find clothing, jewelry, art, handmade goods, and items made by local craftspeople.
Everything feels much more relaxed and less polished than at the markets in the city center. It can be crowded in places and a little chaotic, but that’s exactly what gives this market its character.

RAW Christmas Market
- Date: November 28, 2026
- Opening hours: 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM
RAW runs for just one day, on November 28.
This is a market for local designers and makers in Nørrebro. You can find ceramics, jewelry, clothing, homeware, and other original pieces.
If you want to buy something less ordinary, RAW is worth visiting. The only catch is that you’ll need to be in Copenhagen specifically on November 28.
FLID Christmas Art & Design Fair
- Starts: December 11, 2026
FLID is more focused on design and craftsmanship. You’ll find ceramics, textiles, jewelry, home décor, and small items made by Danish designers and craftspeople.
This is a good place to come specifically for gifts, especially if you’re tired of standard souvenirs and want to find something that actually feels connected to Copenhagen.

- Dates: December 12 and 13, 2026
The setting alone makes ØsterGRO unusual. The market is held at an urban farm located on the rooftop of a building in Østerbro.
It’s a small market and only runs for two days. Local producers gather here to sell food and gifts.
The whole experience feels much calmer than the markets around Strøget. If you’ve already seen the main markets, ØsterGRO is a nice change of pace.
Local Christmas Markets
Swedish Church Christmas Bazaar
- Dates: November 20 to 22, 2026
The Christmas bazaar at the Swedish Church, Gustafskyrkan, is small and very cozy. You’ll find Swedish food, baked goods, candles, textiles, decorations, and other festive items.
I’d recommend it if you want to see a quieter side of Christmas in Copenhagen. There’s less tourist buzz here, and the atmosphere feels more like a local holiday bazaar.

Frederiksberg is slightly away from the busiest tourist streets, and the Christmas market here feels calmer too.
The market takes place in front of Frederiksberg Town Hall. The stalls sell items from local producers, artists, designers, and craftspeople. You can browse for gifts, pick up something to eat, and explore Frederiksberg at the same time.
I’d add this market to your plans if you’ve already explored the city center and want a change of neighborhood.
