Alexa Gordon – first trip to the USA in 2011 I first arrived in the USA after years of dreaming about this country, planning to spend just one month there. That month changed my life. The diversity of landscapes, the dynamism of cities, and the openness of people made me come back again and again. For the past 14 years, I have explored the USA from coast to coast – from New York skyscrapers to California beaches, from the Great Lakes to Arizona canyons. I've traveled by car along legendary highways, crossed states by train, and explored national parks on foot. The USA is a country of contrasts, where each state has its unique character. Here, bustling metropolises coexist with quiet provincial towns, technology hubs and untouched nature, historical landmarks and modern entertainment. I help travelers discover the real America beyond tourist clichés, tailoring routes to specific interests. Over the years, I have developed more than 400 individual journeys and conducted hundreds of tours across different parts of the country. Let me create the perfect USA itinerary for you, taking into account your interests, pace, and preferences.

When we talk about childhood dreams coming true, it’s hard to compete with Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. This isn’t just an amusement park – it’s a magical universe of imagination, wonder, and unforgettable experiences spread across 25,600 acres. With four theme parks, two water parks, a shopping and entertainment district, and over 25 resort hotels, this resort truly is “The Most Magical Place on Earth.”

The Four Theme Parks – Heart of the Magic

Magic Kingdom: Where Dreams Begin

At the heart of the resort lies Magic Kingdom, the classic and most popular park, welcoming over 20 million visitors annually. It’s divided into six themed lands, each with its own unique atmosphere. When entering through Main Street USA, you immediately feel the nostalgic magic of early 20th century America. This main street isn’t just beautiful – it’s practical, housing most of the park’s major shops and restaurants. Visitors recommend arriving 90 minutes before opening to avoid crowds and catch the most popular attractions.

In Adventureland, guests discover Pirates of the Caribbean, the classic attraction that laid the foundation for the famous film series. The 15-minute boat ride through the pirate world is perfect for all ages. Right next to it is Jungle Cruise, a boat journey through various jungles worldwide with skippers who specialize in corny jokes – an essential part of the experience. The area also features Magic Carpets of Aladdin and Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room.

Frontierland offers Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, the new attraction that recently replaced Splash Mountain. The water ride with its 50-foot drop promises to get you a bit wet, so consider bringing a change of clothes. The area also includes Tom Sawyer Island, which offers interactive opportunities and stunning views in caves, forts, and exciting landmarks.

Liberty Square is home to Haunted Mansion, one of Disney’s most classic and beloved attractions. This sweet-scary experience is suitable for all ages and is considered a must for every visitor. Wait times here are usually relatively short thanks to the attraction’s high capacity.

Fantasyland is the largest area in the park and home to some of the most sought-after attractions. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is a family coaster that’s suitable for both young children and adults. Space Mountain, the iconic indoor roller coaster, offers a thrilling experience in almost complete darkness. It’s a Small World remains a timeless classic with over 300 dolls from around the world and a melody that will follow you home.

Tomorrowland boasts TRON Lightcycle Run, the newly opened futuristic roller coaster. This fast-paced, futuristic attraction offers a unique experience on light cycles, but it’s not suitable for guests under 48 inches tall.

Pro Tip: Consider purchasing Lightning Lane for popular attractions. Prices range from $15-39 for Multi-Pass per day and $10-25 for Single-Pass per attraction, but it saves hours of waiting. Disney’s app allows you to check real-time wait times and make restaurant reservations.

EPCOT: Innovation Meets World Cultures

EPCOT is a unique park that combines education and entertainment. With four main areas, it offers a completely different experience from Disney’s classic magic.

World Celebration is the heart of the park, featuring Spaceship Earth – the massive silver sphere that has become EPCOT’s symbol. This ride inside the sphere tells the story of human communication throughout history and takes about 15 minutes. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is a new indoor roller coaster featuring six different soundtracks, making each ride a different experience.

World Discovery focuses on technology and exploring the future. Mission: SPACE simulates an astronaut experience with forces up to 2.5G – not recommended for those who suffer from motion sickness. The area also offers advanced technological experiences and other futuristic attractions.

World Showcase is EPCOT’s most unique feature – 11 countries surrounding a central lagoon, each with authentic architecture, food, and culture. Frozen Ever After in the Norway Pavilion is an extremely popular attraction that can reach wait times of over two hours. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in the France Pavilion shrinks you to the size of a mouse for a journey through Gusteau’s restaurant.

Pro Tip: EPCOT is perfect for visiting during its many festivals. The Flower and Garden Festival (March-June) showcases stunning garden designs and special food booths. The Food and Wine Festival (August-November) is a true celebration with over 28 food booths from around the world.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios: Movie Magic

This park specializes in the world of film and television and offers some of Disney’s most advanced attractions. With 11 main attractions, it’s the smallest of the parks but also the most crowded.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is the park’s undisputed star. Rise of the Resistance is considered one of the best attractions Disney has ever created – it combines riding, walking, simulators, and special effects over about 18 minutes. Wait times can reach 3 hours, so Lightning Lane here is almost mandatory. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run allows six guests to pilot the Millennium Falcon together, with each person getting a different role.

Toy Story Land is perfect for families with young children. Slinky Dog Dash is a great family coaster that’s not too scary, while Toy Story Mania is a competitive 3D shooting game that both adults and children enjoy.

Classic attractions like Tower of Terror and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster still draw crowds. The 200-foot Tower of Terror offers a scary but thrilling free fall, while the Aerosmith roller coaster accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds.

Pro Tip: This park is the most crowded during the day, so arrive 90 minutes before opening. Disney resort guests can enter 30 minutes early – a huge advantage especially here.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom: Nature Meets Imagination

The largest park in the resort (580 acres) combines real animals with thrilling attractions. It’s divided into six themed areas and offers a completely different experience from the other parks.

Pandora – The World of Avatar is the newest and most spectacular area. Avatar Flight of Passage is an advanced 3D simulator that flies you on banshees over Pandora’s landscapes – one of the most impressive experiences in all of Disney. Na’vi River Journey is a peaceful boat ride through Pandora’s glowing forest with state-of-the-art audio-animatronics.

Kilimanjaro Safaris in Africa is the park’s crown jewel – a 20-minute ride through a 110-acre savanna with real animals. Elephants, giraffes, lions, rhinos, and other animals roam freely. The best times are early morning or late afternoon when the animals are more active.

Expedition Everest in Asia is a thrilling roller coaster set in the mythical Mount Everest. The coaster travels both forward and backward and features the Yeti – Disney’s most complex audio-animatronic at the time.

Pro Tip: This park is most pleasant in the early morning hours when the animals are active and temperatures are cooler. Since it’s the largest, plan for a full day and bring comfortable shoes.

Accommodation: From Value to Luxury

Disney offers a wide range of accommodation options in three main categories, each with unique advantages beyond price.

Value Resorts

Disney’s Value resorts are designed for families looking to save money while staying within Disney’s magic. Prices range from $140-220 per night for a standard room.

All-Star Resorts are divided into three separate hotels: Music, Sports, and Movies. Each has colorful and cheerful designs that kids absolutely love. Rooms are small (240 square feet) but functional, with beds for four people. Amenities include swimming pools, food courts, and gift shops.

Pop Century Resort offers nostalgia for 20th century American pop culture, with giant sculptures of cultural icons. The hotel shares a Skyliner station with Art of Animation, providing quick access to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios – a significant advantage worth the slightly higher price.

Art of Animation is the most expensive Value resort ($170-250 per night) but also the most impressive. The courtyard is divided into four themed areas: The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Cars, and Finding Nemo. Big Blue Pool is the largest among all Disney hotels.

Moderate Resorts

Disney’s Moderate resorts offer a perfect balance between price and quality, with prices of $300-450 per night. Rooms are larger (350 square feet) and amenities are upgraded.

Caribbean Beach Resort underwent extensive renovations in recent years and became one of the most popular hotels. The Caribbean design is colorful and relaxing, and the Skyliner station provides quick access to two parks. The hotel is very large (36 buildings!) so it’s recommended to request a room close to the Skyliner station or main entrance.

Coronado Springs specializes in Mexican-Spanish cuisine and offers a wide variety of quality restaurants. The new tower, Gran Destino Tower, offers luxury suites and stunning views. This is the only Moderate resort with a fitness center and spa.

Port Orleans is divided into two: French Quarter and Riverside. Both are located on an artificial river with boats connecting to Disney Springs. The New Orleans atmosphere is authentic and romantic, perfect for couples.

Deluxe Resorts

Disney’s Deluxe resorts offer the highest level of service and atmosphere, with prices of $550-1500+ per night. Rooms are spacious (400+ square feet) and amenities are exceptional.

Grand Floridian is Disney’s flagship hotel, with elegant Victorian design and a perfect location facing Magic Kingdom. The monorail stops directly at the hotel, and there’s a walking path to Magic Kingdom. The hotel offers over 10 restaurants, including Victoria & Albert’s – the most expensive restaurant in the resort.

Animal Kingdom Lodge offers an authentic African experience with wild animals roaming freely outside room windows. The impressive lobby, authentic African restaurants, and relatively low prices for the luxury level make it one of the most popular hotels.

Contemporary Resort is the classic hotel that opened with Magic Kingdom in 1971. The monorail runs through the hotel itself – a sight that never gets old. California Grill on the 15th floor offers stunning views of Magic Kingdom’s fireworks.

Pro Tip: Disney resort guests receive significant benefits: early park entry (30 minutes), ability to purchase Genie+ in advance, free delivery to rooms, and free parking at parks (worth $30 per day).

Disneyland in USA, Florida

Transportation System: The Hidden Magic

One of the most impressive things about Disney World is the free and efficient transportation system that connects all parks and hotels. The Monorail is an iconic symbol of the system, with two main lines: one connecting Magic Kingdom with Contemporary, Grand Floridian, and Polynesian hotels, and another connecting EPCOT to the Transportation and Ticket Center. The ride is smooth and comfortable, especially at night when the lighting comes on.

Disney Skyliner is a new gondola system that opened in 2019. The lines connect EPCOT and Hollywood Studios with Caribbean Beach, Art of Animation, Pop Century, and Riviera hotels. The aerial journey offers stunning views and is faster than buses in most cases. Important to know that gondolas stop during stormy weather.

Buses are the backbone of the system and connect all points not connected by train or gondolas. Buses typically run every 15-20 minutes, but during busy times it can be less frequent.

Water transportation includes boats connecting Hollywood Studios and EPCOT with BoardWalk, Beach Club, and Yacht Club hotels, as well as boats to Disney Springs from several hotels. Boat rides are pleasant but relatively slow.

Planning Your Visit: Tips for a Perfect Experience

Early planning is key to a successful visit to Disney World. It’s recommended to start planning at least 60 days in advance, especially for visits during busy periods.

Ticket Purchase: Prices vary by day and season. A one-day ticket can cost between $109-159 for adults, depending on the day. Multi-day tickets are more economical – a 4-day ticket costs about $400-500 per adult. It’s recommended to buy in advance on the official website or through a recognized travel agent.

Genie+ and Lightning Lane: The new system for skipping lines costs $15-39 per day per person for Lightning Lane Multi-Pass and allows skipping lines at most attractions. The most popular attractions require separate purchase of Lightning Lane Single Pass ($10-25 per attraction). It sounds expensive, but visitors staying only a few days will save many hours. There’s also Lightning Lane Premier Pass ($129-449 per day) that allows immediate entry to all attractions in the park.

Restaurant Reservations: Popular restaurants fill up 60 days in advance (90 days for Disney resort guests). Restaurants like Be Our Guest, Cinderella’s Royal Table, or Chef Mickey’s require very early reservations. Prices range from $35-80 per adult for main courses.

Hotel Booking: Check for discounts at Disney hotels. Currently offering discounts of up to 30% for stays of 5 nights or more during summer and fall months. There are also discounts for shorter stays.

The App: Disney’s official app is essential. Through it you book Lightning Lane, check wait times, order food, and even request assistance. Download mandatory before arrival.

When planning which park to visit on which day, consider that Monday-Wednesday are usually less crowded, and Magic Kingdom is always busiest on weekends. EPCOT is especially pleasant in the evening, when the lighting comes on in World Showcase.

Food: From Quick Service to Gourmet

Disney is known (unfortunately) for its high food prices, but there are smart ways to deal with this. A meal at quick service restaurants costs about $15-20 per adult, while a meal at table service restaurants costs $35-80 per adult.

  • Quick Service: Fast food restaurants offer relatively good value. Some standout recommendations: Satuli Canteen in Pandora (tasty “exotic” food), Docking Bay 7 in Galaxy’s Edge (Star Wars-themed food), Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie in EPCOT (authentic French pastries).
  • Table Service: Leading restaurants include: Be Our Guest in Magic Kingdom (dinner in Beauty and the Beast restaurant), Chef Mickey’s at Contemporary (breakfast with Mickey and Minnie), Topolino’s Terrace at Riviera Resort (excellent Italian cuisine with Disney characters).
  • Food Savings: Disney allows bringing food and drinks into parks (except alcohol and glass). Many families bring sandwiches, snacks, and water bottles. There are also free water fountains throughout all parks. Another way to save: kids’ meals at most restaurants include a bucket and shovel suitable for the sandbox at Boneyard in Animal Kingdom.

Must-try special items include: Dole Whip (refreshing pineapple ice cream), Mickey Mouse Pretzel, giant turkey legs. At EPCOT, food cubes at festivals allow tasting cuisines from around the world at reasonable prices ($5-12 per cube).

Special Services: Disney for Everyone

Disney works hard to make magic accessible to everyone. Disability Access Service (DAS) allows people with various disabilities to skip regular lines and return at a designated time. The service is free and available at all parks, but requires advance registration.

Young children have a special service package: Baby Care Centers in every park (nursing and changing rooms), stroller rentals ($15 per day), and Rider Switch that allows parents to ride attractions in turns without waiting twice. Children under 3 enter free to all parks.

PhotoPass is Disney’s official photography service. Professional photographers are located throughout the parks and near popular attractions. The basic package costs $169 per day or $199 for the entire vacation and allows downloading all photos in high quality. The service also includes automatic photos from attractions and focused short clips.

Pricing: How Much Does the Dream Cost?

A family vacation for 4 people for 5 days can cost between $5,000-15,000, depending on accommodation level, season, and additional services. Here’s a rough estimate:

  • Admission Tickets: $1,800-2,400 for a family of 4 for 5 days
  •  Accommodation: $700-7,500 for 4 nights (depending on hotel type and season)
  •  Food: $1,000-2,500 (hotel or park dining)
  •  Flights: $1,200-3,500 depending on season and airline
  •  Car Rental: $250-500 for 5 days
  •  Additional Services: $400-1,200 (Lightning Lane, PhotoPass, souvenirs)

Ways to save money include: visiting during quiet seasons (January-February, September-November except holidays), choosing Value hotels or off-property hotels, bringing food and drinks, buying multi-day tickets instead of single-day tickets.

Seasons: It’s important to know that prices and crowds vary dramatically by season. The busiest periods are December-January, Easter (March-April), summer (June-August), and American fall break week (October). During these periods, prices can be double and parks completely full.

The best periods are January-February (after New Year), September-November (except fall break), and mid-January to mid-March. Weather is pleasant, prices are lower, and wait times are shorter.

Park Operating Hours

Park opening and closing hours vary according to season and day of the week, with longer hours in summer (June-August):

  • Magic Kingdom: 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM (until 11:00 PM-12:00 AM during busy seasons)
  •  EPCOT: 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM (may extend during festivals)
  •  Hollywood Studios: 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM (may extend for special events)
  •  Animal Kingdom: 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM or 8:00 PM (closes earlier due to animals)

Disney resort guests enjoy Early Theme Park Entry, allowing entry 30 minutes before official opening to all parks, while Deluxe resort guests also get extended evening hours at select parks.

Disneyland in USA, Florida

Weather and What to Pack

Florida is famous for its hot and humid weather, but there can be surprises. In summer (June-September), temperatures reach 95°F with very high humidity, and there are short but heavy tropical rains in the afternoons. Must pack sunscreen (the strongest available), hat, light and breathable clothing, and umbrella or poncho. In winter (December-February), weather is usually pleasant (60-75°F), but there can be suddenly cold days (40-50°F). Bring layers – short sleeves for days, and sweatshirt or light jacket for evenings and mornings.

Shoes are critical – visitors walk an average of 15-25,000 steps per day, so it’s important to bring comfortable shoes with good padding. Other useful accessories: portable charger (the app drains battery quickly), waterproof bag, large water bottle, energy snacks, and basic medications. For families with young children, it’s recommended to bring a lightweight stroller or rent on-site ($15 per day).

Evening and Night

One of the most special things about Disney is the nighttime magic. Every park offers spectacular fireworks shows that are an integral part of the experience.

Happily Ever After at Magic Kingdom is the most popular fireworks show. It combines fireworks, music, and images projected onto Cinderella Castle for 18 thrilling minutes. The show usually starts 90 minutes after sunset. To get a good spot, you need to arrive at least an hour early to the park center. The best spots are near the castle, at Main Street Plaza, and in parts of Frontierland.

EPCOT Forever and Luminous at EPCOT are alternating shows around the central lagoon. The large lake allows viewing from anywhere, but the best spots are in World Showcase between Italy and Germany or near the American pavilion.

Fantasmic! at Hollywood Studios takes place in a dedicated amphitheater and combines fireworks, water and fire effects. It’s the most theatrical and dramatic show, but requires advance seat reservations or very early arrival.

Beyond fireworks shows, the parks change their character at night. Pandora at Animal Kingdom becomes a glowing fantasy world with bioluminescent vegetation. Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios feels like a real Star Wars world with dramatic lighting.

Character Meet and Greets: Personal Magic

One of the most exciting parts of Disney, especially for children, is meeting beloved characters. Every park offers numerous opportunities to meet different characters, from classics to new ones.

At Magic Kingdom, the most important meeting is with Mickey and Minnie at Town Square Theater. This is the most official and special location, with professional photos and quality time with the characters. At Princess Fairytale Hall, you can meet various princesses who rotate throughout the day.

At EPCOT, characters from around the world in World Showcase offer a unique cultural experience. You can meet Belle in France, Mulan in China, and Anna and Elsa in Norway.

At Hollywood Studios, you can meet Star Wars characters at Star Wars Launch Bay, including Darth Vader, Chewbacca, and BB-8. This is the only place in Disney where you can meet characters from the famous film series.

At Animal Kingdom, classic characters like Mickey and Minnie wait for you at Adventurers Outpost, while you can meet characters from “The Lion King” and “Up” in various areas of the park.

Pro Tip: Meeting times change daily and can be found in the app. The most popular meetings can reach wait times of an hour or more, so it’s worth planning ahead. Some meetings are also available at special meals, which require additional payment but without waiting.

Disneyland in USA, Florida

Shopping and Souvenirs: Memories to Take Home

Disney offers a unique shopping experience with thousands of items you can’t find anywhere else. From Main Street Emporium at Magic Kingdom to small boutique shops, there’s something for every taste and budget.

Classic souvenirs include t-shirts ($25-40), Mickey ear hats ($30-50), dolls and toys ($15-100), and jewelry ($20-200). More expensive items include limited edition art, Disney watches ($100-1000), and special clothing.

Special shops include Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at Magic Kingdom, where girls are transformed into princesses ($65-450 per package), and Savi’s Workshop in Galaxy’s Edge, where you can build a personal lightsaber ($220).

The smartest way to shop is to make a list in advance and set a budget. Many items are also available online at similar prices. Disney offers delivery service to hotel rooms (at Disney hotels) or home for an additional fee.

Pro Tip: Shops are open 1-2 hours after park closing times, allowing shopping without crowds and congestion. Additionally, Disney hotels have souvenir shops offering some products at small discounts.

Common Mistakes to Avoid When Visiting Disney World

After millions of visits, there are several common mistakes that repeat and can ruin the experience:

  • Over-packing: Many families bring too many things, making their stroller cumbersome and difficult to fold for buses and monorail. The key is minimalism.
  • Over-planning: The desire to see everything can create pressure and anxiety. It’s better to choose 2-3 “must-do” attractions per day and be flexible with the rest.
  • Ignoring weather: In the Florida summer, you can’t ignore the heat. Air conditioning breaks, lots of water, and planning according to temperature are essential.
  • Saving in the wrong place: Saving on a distant hotel can add hours of travel and ruin the experience. It’s better to save on food or souvenirs.
  • Preferring quantity over quality: Many visitors try to do everything quickly instead of enjoying the experience. Disney is about magic and small details, not running from attraction to attraction.

Why It’s Really Worth It

Walt Disney World is much more than an amusement park. It’s the place where advanced technology meets timeless stories, where small details create big experiences, and where magic truly happens. Yes, it’s expensive. Yes, it can be crowded. Yes, it requires planning.

But when you see the eyes of a child meeting Mickey for the first time, when you experience the amazing technology of Flight of Passage, when you get excited by fireworks over Cinderella Castle – you understand why millions of people return here again and again. It’s not just a vacation, it’s creating memories that last a lifetime. And that, ultimately, is Disney’s real magic – the ability to create moments that become memories, and memories that become part of the family story.
