In 2026, WeihnachtsZauber returns home to Gendarmenmarkt after spending several years at Bebelplatz. It remains one of Berlin’s most quintessential markets, celebrated for its stunning historic square, festive illuminations, artisan crafts, sit-down dining tents, and live stage performances.

It’s best visited in the evening when the entire square glows with light. You can easily pair it with a stroll along Unter den Linden and through central Mitte.

Wintermarkt at Humboldt Forum

• Location: Schlossplatz and Schlüterhof

The market at the Humboldt Forum fits naturally into a day spent exploring Berlin’s historic core, with Museum Island, the Berlin Cathedral (Berliner Dom), and Unter den Linden right next door.

This venue stays open longer than many others-running through early January-making it especially handy if your trip falls after Christmas Day.

Berliner Weihnachtszeit at Rotes Rathaus

Set between the Rotes Rathaus and St. Mary’s Church (St. Marienkirche), this market feels more like a festive open-air amusement park. Highlights include an ice rink circling the Neptune Fountain, a giant Ferris wheel, vintage carousels, and plenty of carnival rides.

It gets especially cozy once night falls. That said, it’s also great for families during the day, featuring small vintage carousels and festive entertainment for kids.

Come to Lucia not for massive amusement rides or endless shopping stalls, but simply to soak in the distinctive Prenzlauer Berg neighborhood atmosphere.

Friedrichshain: A Completely Different Side of Christmas in Berlin

If identical wooden chalets and endless cups of Glühwein start wearing on you after a few traditional stops, head over to Friedrichshain. This is where you’ll find one of the most unconventional holiday markets in the city.

Historic Christmas Market at RAW-Gelände

• Dates: November 12 – December 22, 2026
• Location: RAW-Gelände
• Admission: Paid (free on Mondays)

The RAW-Gelände is completely transformed into a medieval village. Instead of standard modern string lights, the grounds are illuminated by open fire pits and burning torches, featuring working blacksmiths and artisans alongside live musicians, acrobats, and fire performers.

For hands-on entertainment, you can try your hand at archery and axe throwing, or take a ride on hand-turned historical carousels.

In terms of vibe, this spot is practically the polar opposite of Gendarmenmarkt. While central Berlin focuses on elegant architecture and classic holiday polish, the draw here is the immersive theme and raw, energetic evening atmosphere.

Once you wrap up at the market, you can continue exploring Friedrichshain or hang out around the lively Warschauer Straße area.

Spandau: Is It Worth the Trip for Just One Market?

Spandau sits well outside the main tourist hubs, so you aren’t likely to wander in by accident. But if you’re in town for several days, it’s definitely worth carving out a dedicated half-day for the area.

You’ll find a traditional Christmas pyramid, a towering tree, a Ferris wheel, and rides for kids. There is also a dedicated historical section with artisan crafters, along with a special family-friendly program every Wednesday.

Spandau makes total sense if you want to pair market stalls with a relaxed stroll through an old town and take a breather from the bustle of central Berlin.

That said, if your trip is only one or two days long, there’s no need to make the trek out here.
