My name is Jena Hovor. I found myself in France in 2010 after graduating from journalism school, when I decided to take a short break before starting my career. What was supposed to be a three-month trip turned into my destiny and a lifelong passion. France captivated me with its incredible diversity: from the lavender fields of Provence to the majestic cliffs of Étretat, from the snow-capped peaks of the Alps to the sandy beaches of the French Riviera. Each region revealed a new facet of the French soul – the gastronomic abundance of Burgundy, the architectural heritage of Alsace, the wild beauty of Corsica, and the mysterious Brittany with its Celtic roots. Over 14 years, I've cycled more than 15,000 kilometers on French roads, explored all 13 metropolitan regions and overseas territories. I've created over 170 original routes, many of which pass through authentic villages and secret places known only to locals. I speak French, English, and Russian fluently, and have mastered the Provençal dialect. I still discover new corners of this amazing country every day. I am convinced that the real France lives not only in Paris and famous tourist spots, but also in small family wineries, local farmers' markets, and ancient castles hidden among vineyards.

Disneyland Paris is more than just a theme park – it’s a magical world that brings dreams to life. With over 16 million visitors annually, it’s Europe’s most popular tourist attraction, and for good reason. The park combines Disney’s classic magic with unique European charm, creating an experience you can’t find anywhere else in the world. Since opening in 1992, it has become a symbol of magic and dreams that attracts families from around the globe.

General Information and Trip Planning

Location and Getting There

Disneyland Paris is located in the town of Chessy, about 32 kilometers east of Paris. Despite sounding far, getting there is actually very simple. The most convenient and fastest way is by RER train from central Paris, which takes about 45 minutes and brings you directly to the park entrance. Trains run every 15 minutes during peak hours, and the new MTR (Metro-Train-RER) ticket costs €2.50 one way (€1.25 for children ages 4-9). You need to load the ticket onto a Navigo Easy card (€2) or use the phone app – paper tickets are no longer sold.

For those who prefer driving, the distance from the Eiffel Tower is about 1 hour and 10 minutes, with large parking lots available on-site. Parking costs around €30 per day, but it’s convenient and secure.

Public transportation from airports is also available – from Charles de Gaulle Airport, the journey takes about 45 minutes by train, while from Orly Airport the route is longer and requires transfers. Taxis cost €60-80 from Paris, but they’re especially convenient with children and lots of luggage.

Opening Hours and Ticket Prices

Disneyland Paris opens at 8:30 AM for Disney hotel guests (Extra Magic Time) and at 9:30 AM for all guests. Closing times vary by season and day of the week, with summer months and holidays keeping the park open until 11:00 PM, while winter months typically close between 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM. Saturdays close later than weekdays, which is a significant advantage for those who get extra time in an almost empty park.

Ticket Prices for 2025:

  • One-day ticket (one park): €50-119 (previously €58-110)
  • One-day ticket (both parks): €82-144 (previously €83-135)
  • Two-day ticket: from €175
  • Three-day ticket: from €225
  • Four-day ticket: from €260 (can reach €531 during peak seasons)
  • Disney Premier Access Ultimate (skip the lines): €90-190 per day (previously €90-150)
  • Children’s prices (3-11 years): typically €5-8 less than adult price. Children under 3 enter free.

Prices are divided into three seasonal categories: green (cheapest), orange (medium), and red (most expensive). Summer holidays, Hanukkah, and Christian holidays are considered red season. Tickets must be booked in advance on the official website disneyland.paris – this not only helps save up to 40% off the price (previously 20%), but also guarantees entry on days when tickets sell out, which happens frequently during peak seasons.

Restaurant reservations are critical, especially if you plan to stay for dinner. Reservations open 60 days in advance for hotel guests and 30 days in advance for general public. The most popular restaurants fill up within hours of reservation opening.

Essential Pre-Visit Preparations

Before traveling, download the official “Disneyland Paris” app – this is your most important tool. The app shows real-time wait times, an interactive GPS map, restaurant menus, show schedules, and even allows pre-ordering food. Update it to the latest version before your trip.

If you’re planning to visit the classic park, which includes the most iconic attractions and experiences, it’s recommended to stay for at least one day.

The Main Park – Disneyland Park

Main Street, USA

The park entrance begins with a beautiful street that recreates a prosperous 20th-century American town. The buildings are decorated with rich details and painted in bright, pastel colors, designed to evoke feelings of nostalgia and joy. This isn’t just a path to the castle – it’s an experience in itself.

The Disneyland Railroad begins its journey on this street, with stations in Frontierland, Fantasyland, and Discoveryland. The train isn’t just convenient transportation – it’s an attraction in itself, featuring unique dioramas of the Grand Canyon and passages through other attractions like “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Indiana Jones.” The complete journey takes 20 minutes and offers unique viewpoints of the park.

The covered arcades on both sides of the street provide shelter in bad weather and showcase unique shops. Liberty Arcade tells the story of the Statue of Liberty’s creation and contains fascinating models of the statue in various construction stages. Discovery Arcade displays fascinating models of yesterday’s future visions – how we once imagined the future.

Along Main Street, you’ll find charming shops, each specializing in its own category: the candy shop offering fresh treats made on-site, the hat shop with Mickey ears in all sizes, and the huge bookstore selling books in many languages. The shop designs are faithful to the period and create a perfect illusion of a vintage American town.

Frontierland

In the heart of the theme park, you find yourself in America’s Wild West, with a 19th-century atmosphere, Victorian design, and desert landscapes that recreate the American frontier. The area was carefully designed with Victorian-style buildings and landscapes that make you feel like you’re truly in the Wild West.

Big Thunder Mountain is one of the park’s central attractions and is undoubtedly the most visually unique. This roller coaster is located on an island in the middle of the Wild West rivers, providing stunning views during the ride. The attraction tells the story of Thunder Mesa – a prosperous mining town that was cursed by local Native Americans, and now trains run wild through the abandoned mines.

The ride includes special effects like exploding dynamite, thick smoke, and flying bats. The track winds through caves, over suspension bridges, and around water rivers. Wait times can reach up to an hour and a half on busy days, but the ride is worth every minute of waiting. Minimum height: 1.02 meters.

Phantom Manor is a Parisian version of “Haunted Mansion,” but with a unique twist. The story is more complex and combines elements of “Phantom of the Opera” and Dickens’ “Great Expectations” with Wild West atmosphere. The building’s Second Empire architecture gives it an abandoned, scary appearance that fits the story.

The story focuses on Melanie Ravenswood, daughter of estate owner Elias Ravenswood. Melanie was supposed to marry her beloved, but he was murdered by Melanie’s greedy uncle. Melanie died of grief, and her spirit has wandered the manor ever since. The attraction takes you through the manor’s various rooms and tells this tragic story.

The peaceful quiet spot is the Thunder Mesa Riverboat Landing on the “Molly Brown,” named after famous Titanic survivor Margaret “Molly” Brown. The 12-minute journey offers beautiful views of Big Thunder Mountain, Adventure Isle, and other park corners. There’s recorded dialogue between the captain and Molly Brown telling the area’s history.

Frontierland’s theater presents the musical “The Lion King: Rhythm of the Pride Lands” – a stunning 25-minute show with acrobats, dancers, and singers performing all the beloved songs from the movie. The show also includes impressive aerial acrobatics and complex choreography. Arrive at least 30 minutes before the show to get good seats.

For children, there’s a large playground (Frontier Playground) with climbing structures, slides, and even a real canoe that kids can explore. For adults, there’s a shooting gallery (Rustler Roundup Shooting Gallery) where you can test your shooting skills with real rifles that fire infrared arrows. The gallery costs about €1 per shot.

Adventureland

In Adventureland at Disneyland Paris, you can experience a wide variety of adventures and different atmospheres. The area is divided into four sub-areas, each offering unique experiences inspired by exotic places around the world. No matter where you turn, you’ll feel like you’re somewhere completely different.

The Middle Eastern area includes “Enchanted Passage of Aladdin,” an attraction where you can walk through artistic scenes from the classic movie. The scenes are displayed in dark rooms with dramatic lighting and music from the film, making it a perfect place to spend 10 minutes between more popular attractions. It’s suitable for families with young children and provides a refreshing break from crowds.

Move to the Asian jungle area, where you’ll find “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril,” an attraction that was Disney’s first roller coaster with a complete inversion, and it’s still particularly thrilling. The ride takes you on a mining train through a lost temple in Asia’s jungles, as you help Indiana Jones escape from evil priests. The height restriction is 1.40 meters, and the wait can reach an hour, but it’s worth every minute.

Adventure Isle is a unique area in Disneyland Paris. Instead of Tom Sawyer’s Island found in other Disney parks, Parisian designers created a Caribbean island inspired by pirate and adventurer stories. The island is divided into two parts:

The northern part contains the Swiss Family Treehouse, with more details and rooms than any other version in the world. You can climb through all the house’s rooms, see the kitchen, bedrooms, and even the rooftop patio. Below the tree, you can explore a network of caves filled with roots, which served the Swiss family as a basement for storing food and tools.

The southern part hosts Captain Hook’s Ship near Skull Rock. There you can meet Captain Hook and his faithful assistant Mr. Smee at certain times during the day. The ship is full of details from the “Peter Pan” movie, and children can explore every corner. Pirate Beach offers a nautical play area with rope ladders, slides, rafts, and even a real pirate’s plank to walk on.

Spyglass Hill is the colossal mountain in the island’s center, filled with mazes and caves with hidden treasures. Some caves reference Disney’s 1950 film “Treasure Island,” including “Ben Gunn’s Cave” where you can find treasures he hid. The mountain was built from real stones purchased from quarries throughout France to create an authentic look.

“Pirates of the Caribbean” is a classic attraction that must be experienced. The boat ride through scenes of pirate battles and a city under attack includes over a hundred animatronics of pirates and animals. This attraction inspired the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films, and after the movies’ success, specific characters like Captain Jack Sparrow were added.

The ride begins with a water elevator that takes you to the pirates’ caves, passes through the dead pirates’ den, a scene of women being auctioned, a battle between pirates and soldiers, and finally a burning city with Jack Sparrow ruling over everything. The attraction lasts about 8 minutes, and thanks to high loading capacity, waits here are usually reasonable.

Fantasyland

In the heart of the park, with 13 fascinating attractions suitable for a wide range of ages, lies Fantasyland. The area’s center is Sleeping Beauty Castle, built inspired by Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria, but on a smaller scale. Inside the castle, you’ll find two fascinating attractions: Sleeping Beauty Gallery, which retells the story of Sleeping Beauty using stunning stained glass, rich tapestries, and illustrated books, and the route passes through the castle’s rooms showing the story from beginning to happy end. Below the castle is the Dragon’s Lair, which leads you to a dark cave with a giant 27-meter-long dragon – one of the largest animatronics Disney ever created. The dragon usually sleeps, but occasionally it wakes up, opens glowing eyes and breathes smoke, which can be a bit scary for young children, but most kids enjoy the experience.

One of the area’s most popular attractions is Peter Pan’s Flight, which offers a flight over nighttime London and Neverland in a pirate ship. Despite long waits, the reason is simple – this magical ride in a flying ship never loses its charm. You enter a “pirate ship” suspended from the ceiling and fly over dioramas of nighttime London with Big Ben and the Thames, then over Neverland with the Lost Boys, Tinker Bell’s fairy mill, and Captain Hook’s pirate ship.

Additionally, there are many other attractions in Fantasyland, including:

  • Lancelot’s Carousel: A hand-crafted precision carousel with horses and classical music reminiscent of the original Disneyland California parks.
  • It’s a Small World: An attraction featuring over 300 animatronic dolls in traditional costumes from around the world, singing the stickiest song in history.
  • Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: A classic dark attraction that goes through the story’s main scenes.
  • Pinocchio’s Fantastic Journey: Through Stromboli’s circus, Pleasure Island, and the whale’s belly.
  • Dumbo the Flying Elephant: A spinning attraction suitable for all ages that appears in every Disney park worldwide.
  • Alice’s Curious Labyrinth: Two parts including the Tulgey Wood and the Queen of Hearts’ maze.
  • Mad Hatter’s Tea Cups: A special version of this classic attraction, located under a beautiful glass dome shaped like a flower crown.
  • Storybook Land Canal Boats: A relaxing 12-minute cruise through miniature scenes from Disney movies.
  • Casey Jr. – le Petit Train du Cirque: A small, colorful circus train suitable for children and offering beautiful park views.

Overall, Fantasyland is an area with diverse attractions suitable for various ages. Whether you’re looking for classic stories like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs or new adventures like Pinocchio’s Fantastic Journey, there’s something for everyone in this part of the park.

Discoveryland

The Parisian version of “Tomorrowland” is unique in its design combining influences from Leonardo da Vinci, Jules Verne, and H.G. Wells. The Victorian-fantastic steampunk atmosphere creates a completely different design from other Disney parks’ “Tomorrowlands.” While other Disney parks focus on the near future and modern technology, Discoveryland focuses on 19th-century future visions.

“Star Tours: The Adventures Continue” is an advanced 3D simulator that takes you on a journey with C-3PO and R2-D2 through a galaxy far, far away. With over 1,500 possible scene combinations from all three Star Wars trilogies, every ride is completely unique. The attraction updates regularly with new scenes from new Star Wars series and movies.

“Hyperspace Mountain” is the most unique Space Mountain in all Disney parks – the only one with three inversions and a track section that exits the building and re-enters. The Star Wars theme was added in a 2017 renovation, adding another layer of excitement with music, light effects, and projections from the movies.

“Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast” is an interactive shooting attraction that puts you in battle against the evil Emperor Zurg. Each vehicle is equipped with two laser guns, and you need to shoot targets to score points. During the ride, you’ll meet Buzz Lightyear and toy soldiers, and at the end, you’ll receive a rating based on your performance. It’s a perfect attraction for family competitions.

Additional attractions include “Orbitron,” a unique version of spinning rockets with a 19th-century bronze planetarium as the central axis instead of the usual rocket. “Autopia” allows guests to drive futuristic cars designed from the fifties on a winding track with bridges, tunnels, and scenery. “Les Mystères du Nautilus” is a walk-through attraction inside Captain Nemo’s submarine from “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,” where you’ll see an underwater library, engine room, and even a battle with a giant octopus.

Shows and Entertainment

“Disney Stars on Parade” is one of the most magical moments of the day at Disney’s theme park. The show usually starts at 5:00 PM and includes characters from movies like “Toy Story,” “The Jungle Book,” “The Lion King,” “Finding Nemo,” “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” and “Frozen.” The parade lasts about 20 minutes and takes you through the entire park, from the western hill to Main Street. Arrive 45 minutes early to grab a good spot – the parade’s energy and joy are contagious even to the most cynical.

The nighttime shows at Disneyland Paris are the crown jewel of the experience. “Disney Dreams” is a 20-minute show that combines advanced mapping projections on the castle, spectacular fireworks, water effects, and even scents that match different scenes. The show tells stories from classic and modern Disney movies, from “Peter Pan” to “Frozen.”

“Disney Symphony of Colors” is a relatively new addition that includes hundreds of drones creating a stunning light show in the sky above the castle. The drones create shapes of Disney characters, magical objects, and even words in the air. Shows usually start between 9:00 PM and 9:30 PM, depending on the season.

Practical Tips for a Perfect Visit

Time Optimization for a Successful Disneyland Paris Visit

The biggest secret to a successful Disneyland Paris visit is arriving early and smart planning. The hours from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM are “golden” with relatively short waits and pleasant weather. Peak hours from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM are the busiest, with waits that can reach up to an hour and a half even at less popular attractions. After 4:00 PM, there’s a gradual decrease in crowds, and in the evening, waits for nighttime shows start getting longer again.

Average Wait Times by Popularity:

  • Less popular attractions (Story Book Land Canal Boats, Orbitron, Casey Jr.): 5-10 minutes
  • Most attractions on weekdays: 10-30 minutes
  • Popular attractions on weekends: 30-60 minutes
  • Most popular attractions (Peter Pan’s Flight, Big Thunder Mountain, Hyperspace Mountain): 60-90+ minutes

The most important tool is the park’s official app, which shows real-time wait times, an interactive GPS map, show schedules, and even pre-ordering food. Make sure your phone is fully charged and bring a portable charger.

Skip-the-Line Systems

Disney Premier Access Ultimate costs €90-190 per day (depending on season) and allows fast entry to all popular attractions through a separate entrance. It’s valid for both parks and allows unlimited use throughout the day. Disney Premier Access One for specific attractions costs €5-18 each and allows skipping the line only once. They can be purchased at the attraction or in the app.

Planning Recommendations by Stay Length:

  • One day: Enough for a taste of the park if arriving early and focusing on 8-10 main attractions
  • Two days: Ideal for a comfortable experience with all attractions, shows, and good food
  • Three to four days: Perfect for a complete experience without pressure, including the second park

Timing Tips:

  • Weekdays are always preferable to weekends (up to 50% difference in wait times)
  • Winter (January-February, except December holidays) is the least crowded period.

Food, Prices, and Shopping

The Culinary World at Disneyland

Food at Disneyland is a controversial topic, with “average American” taste and high prices. Despite this, the unique atmosphere and design of restaurants create a unique experience. A hot dog costs between €10-15, a personal pizza between €12-18, a small slice of cake €4-5, and a frozen drink (slush) €3. A meal at a quick-service restaurant costs €15-25 per person, while a dinner at “Chez Remy” restaurant can reach up to €45 for three courses.

The golden recommendation from repeat visitors: “Captain Jack’s” is the most popular restaurant, with a pirate atmosphere and good quality food. The restaurant at Disneyland Hotel offers a perfect view of the castle, but with even higher prices. “Blue Lagoon” restaurant inside the “Pirates of the Caribbean” attraction offers a unique experience of dining alongside the attraction.

Advance reservations are essential, especially for dinner. After 6:00 PM, it’s almost impossible to find a table at good restaurants, and during nighttime shows, the situation becomes impossible. Reservations open 60 days in advance for hotel guests and 30 days for general public.

A smart tip that will save you hundreds of euros: you’re allowed to bring your own food and drinks in a bag or backpack. Many families bring sandwiches, fruits, and drinks from the hotel or nearby supermarket. There are many clean and convenient picnic areas throughout the park.

Shopping and Souvenirs

Prices in Disney stores are a painful subject. They’re very high even by theme park standards. A simple hat with Disney logo costs €40, sweatshirts start at €60 and can reach €120 for special designs. Quality princess dresses cost between €80-150, special character figurines €100-200, and even a simple brush with a Disney character costs €15-20.

The only thing worth the price is the quality and special design. Special shops like “La Confiserie” sell fresh candies made on-site, and “Lilly’s Boutique” specializes in luxury jewelry and accessories. The nice feature: at store checkouts, you can leave toys for charity, which can be a beautiful way to end the visit and help children in need.

Accommodation and Hospitality

Six Disney hotels are located within a 5-20 minute walk from the park, and they’re significantly more expensive than regular hotels, but the advantages are clear and significant. Prices:

  • Disney’s Hotel Santa Fe (2*): €270-490 per night
  • Disney Hotel Cheyenne (3*): €290-510 per night
  • Disney Sequoia Lodge (3*): €280-1,020 per night
  • Disney’s Newport Bay Club (4*): €407-2,800 per night
  • Disney Hotel New York – Art of Marvel (4*): €539-2,300 per night
  • Disneyland Hotel (5*): €814-4,200 per night

Official Hotel Benefits:

  • Extra Magic Time – early park entry an hour and a half before opening to general public
  • Walking distance from entrance without need for transportation
  • Free transportation to parks by shuttles or on foot
  • Special design and complete thematic experience
  • Special concierge services for visit planning
  • Early restaurant reservation option (60 days in advance)

Hotels are divided into categories: Disneyland Hotel is the most luxurious with magnificent Victorian design, Grand Californian in American lodge style, New York in Art Deco design, Newport Bay Club in New England style, Sequoia Lodge with national parks atmosphere, and Cheyenne the cheapest with Wild West design.

For those seeking more economical options, there are partner hotels outside the site with bus shuttles every 20 minutes. They’re less convenient and don’t receive special benefits, but significantly cheaper (€80-200 per night). Good hotels in this category: Radisson Blu, Marriott Village, and B&B Hotels.

Professional Advice and Important Warnings

Proper Preparation is the Key to an Enjoyable and Non-Exhausting Visit

Do advance research on attractions, familiarize yourself with the park virtually, and plan which attractions are most important to you. Arrive 15-30 minutes before opening to be among the first to enter.

Planning:

Prepare yourself for lots of walking – the park is large, and you move from attraction to attraction all day. Comfortable, flat shoes are critical, make sure they’re already “worn in” and not new. Drink plenty of water (there are free water fountains throughout the park) and maintain nutritious meals, as a full day can be physically and mentally exhausting.

Important Warnings:

  • Don’t bring tripods or selfie sticks – staff may break or throw them away without compensation.
  • Most staff speak primarily French but understand basic English and sometimes Hebrew.
  • Even on weekdays, the park is very crowded, so prepare for large crowds and long waits.
  • Paris weather changes quickly, so bring a light jacket even in summer.
  • Nighttime shows are canceled in severe weather – check the app in advance.

For Families with Young Children:

  • There are nursing and diaper changing rooms in all restrooms.
  • Strollers are allowed everywhere, with special parking areas near attractions.
  • Most attractions are suitable for children, but check age and height restrictions in advance.
  • Restrooms are clean and convenient and located every 50-100 meters.

The Most Important Thing:

Stay for the nighttime show! No matter how tired you are or how difficult transportation back is – the nighttime show is the most magical moment of the entire visit. Only then will you truly understand why Disneyland Paris is considered the most magical place in Europe. This magic is worth all the effort, money, and sleep deprivation – it’s the place where dreams come true, at any age.

A visit to Disneyland Paris isn’t just a vacation – it’s a lifetime memory. With proper preparation, smart planning, and a positive attitude, you’re about to experience magic that will leave you with a smile on your face long after returning home. It’s the place where adults become children again, children believe in magic, and families create memories that will last forever.
