Alexei Novak – First encounter with the Czech Republic in 2005 My acquaintance with the Czech Republic began with an unexpected inheritance – a distant relative left me a small house in a picturesque village near Brno. I planned to quickly process the documents and sell the property, but fate had other plans. When I first stepped over the threshold of this ancient house with its tiled roof, a strange feeling came over me, as if I had returned home. Apple trees bloomed in the garden, neighbors brought homemade bread and told stories about my ancestor – a Czech musician. Deciding to stay for a few months, I hardly noticed how they turned into almost 20 years of life between Prague and the towns of Moravia, where I constantly discover new facets of this country. The Czech Republic is multifaceted. Behind the postcard views of Prague and the famous beer lies a deep culture that often remains unnoticed by ordinary tourists. Those who find an approach to the locals discover a completely different country – not the one shown in guidebooks. Over these years I have conducted hundreds of tours to little-known corners of the Czech Republic and written two books on Czech cuisine and traditions. I've had the opportunity to consult for historical films shot in the Czech Republic and create an educational program about Czech culture. I help tourists in difficult situations and share my knowledge with everyone who wants to see the real Czech Republic – a country where every stone breathes history, and every mug of beer can be the beginning of an amazing friendship.

We have a lot of very pleasant memories connected with Vltava River.

Many times we walked along its embankments enjoying the architectural beauty of nearby buildings. Besides, several times we enjoyed relaxing in the shadow of trees on the islet located opposite the National Theatre.

Once we found ourselves on the embankment during breathtaking sunset after the rain.

In the “Photos of Prague” section you can view plenty of photos we took on Vltava River embankment.

Apart from amazingly beautiful views, Vltava offers a few types of entertainment.

In a warm season you can rent a catamaran right near the islet opposite the National Theatre. Along the embankment you can see several boats converted into restaurants.

And of course you can choose sightseeing from the Vltava River on a river boat. But as for boat trips, that’s another story for another time.

One of the most unusual buildings on Vltava River embankment is Dancing House.

One of the most unusual buildings – Dancing House

The Dancing House is a work of non-traditional architecture making a striking contrast to the neighbouring classic style houses.

The Dancing House was built in 1994-1996 and Václav Havel, the Czech ex-president, supported this project. Today the building is home to different offices and to one of the city’s restaurants on the top floor that offers impressive views of Vltava River. The only way to enter the Dancing House is to attend the restaurant.

After sightseeing we returned to the hotel and in the evening we went to the Slavia café and had wonderful supper. The Old Town of Prague (Stare Mesto) was waiting for us the next day.
