The Lake Ledro Stilt House Museum in Molina di Ledro, Trentino, Italy, is a captivating site that transports visitors back to the Bronze Age. This UNESCO World Heritage site showcases reconstructed stilt houses and original artifacts from a prehistoric village discovered on the eastern shore of the lake. As part of the MUSE network, the museum underwent a complete renovation in 2019, doubling its exhibition space and improving its educational and interactive offerings.

Original Artifacts

The museum displays original artifacts from the ancient village, including:

  • Textiles: Various vegetable fiber products, such as thread balls, net fragments, and intricately decorated textiles, have been preserved in the lake’s clay bottom.
  • Bronze Tools and Ornaments: Examples of advanced metallurgical skills during the period, such as diadems, pins, axe blades, and the “Ledro dagger.”
  • Canoe: A well-preserved 5-meter-long canoe, crafted from a single piece of fir, dating back approximately 3,600 years.
  • Ancient Bread: Evidence of prehistoric bread-making practices similar to those of ancient Egyptians.

  • Depending on the season, dress appropriately for both indoor and outdoor exhibits. In colder months, bring warm clothing as parts of the tour take place outside.
  • The museum offers numerous activities and workshops, especially engaging for children. Check the museum’s event calendar for special workshops like ancient jewelry making.
  • Although the museum itself is relatively small, the detailed exhibits and beautiful surroundings can easily fill a half-day visit.
  • Note that major credit cards may not be accepted, so bring cash for purchasing tickets.

Getting There

The museum is located at Via al Lago 1, 38067 Ledro TN, Italy, approximately 12 kilometers from Riva del Garda. Follow the signs for Valle di Ledro, pass through two long tunnels, and continue for a few kilometers. After Molina, turn left towards Pur; the museum is on the right, by the lake. Paid parking is available nearby.
