Located in the breathtaking landscape of Crete Senesi, the Site Transitorio (Sito Transitorio) is a stunning outdoor sculpture created by French artist Jean-Paul Philippe. Completed in 1993, this iconic roadside station is a unique blend of art and nature, offering visitors a tranquil space in which to admire the stunning Tuscan countryside. Whether you are a passionate photographer or simply seeking a quiet retreat, the Site Transitoire promises an unforgettable experience.

Sights to See

The Site Transitoire has three main components that represent the different human postures: standing, sitting, and lying down. Here are some of the highlights:

  • The sculpture itself: Composed of stone windows, chairs, and benches, the sculpture invites visitors to interact with the art. As you approach, the stone outlines the house without walls, creating a sense of connection with the natural environment.
  • Breathtaking views: From this location, the panoramic view of Crete Cenej is spectacular, especially at sunset. The warm colors of the sky against the rolling hills create a magical atmosphere. This is an ideal spot for photography enthusiasts seeking the perfect shot.
  • Nature Trail: Immerse yourself in a stunning landscape of rolling hills and fields. Take your time and enjoy the scenery as it changes from season to season.

Access

Access to the Transitoire site is part of the adventure. Located between the charming towns of Siena and Asciano, it is accessible by car or bicycle. Here are some tips for planning your trip:

  • By Car: From Siena, take the SR2 road in the direction of Asciano. Follow the signs for Leonina and look for the dirt road that leads to the Transitoire ruins. The last section of the road may be unpaved, so please use only if you are familiar with driving.
  • Public Transportation: Public transportation directly to the Transitoire ruins is limited, but you can take a bus to Asciano and rent a bicycle for the remaining distance.
