My love for Japan began the moment I arrived in Tokyo. The country amazed me with its harmony of ancient traditions, cutting-edge technology, breathtaking nature, and a culture unlike any other. Since then, Japan has become a part of my life, and I return there again and again. Today I help travelers discover the real Japan: I create personalized itineraries, give lectures, and prepare guests for their unforgettable journey. I would be delighted to open Japan for you too!

Ikuta Shrine is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Kobe. Known as one of the oldest shrines in Japan, it serves as a peaceful retreat amidst the hustle and bustle of the city. With its rich history, serene setting, and easy accessibility, Ikuta Shrine beautifully blends culture, spirituality, and nature.

A Shrine Steeped in History

Founded by Empress Jingu in 201 A.D., Ikuta Shrine enshrines Wakahinomisama, the goddess of weaving and matchmaking. Over centuries, the shrine has withstood floods, wars, and earthquakes, becoming a symbol of resilience and renewal for the people of Kobe. Its historical significance also extends to its role as a guardian deity of love, health, and relationships.

Main Features and Attractions

Main Shrine and Offerings

The main hall is the spiritual heart of Ikuta Shrine. Visitors often throw coins into the money box and offer prayers. Many also purchase amulets or try their luck with omikuji (fortune slips). Those who receive a fortune can tie it to a designated tree or shelf to ward off misfortune.

Ikuta Forest

Behind the shrine lies the tranquil Ikuta Forest, featuring walking trails, ancient trees, and small shrines like the Ikuta Forest Shrine, dedicated to Empress Jingu. Among the sacred symbols is the camphor tree, a testament to resilience as it has survived both bombings and natural disasters.
