Santa Croce

Frankly speaking, we had mixed impressions about the Basilica of Santa Croce. But let’s start with good ones. The Basilica is located in a very beautiful and special square. It’s a small, tidy and elegant medieval square that has the same name as the Basilica. The Basilica is noted for its elegant and original facade, tidy and interesting inner courtyard and beautiful interior decorated with stained-glass windows, frescoes and sculptures by Giotto, Donatello Canova and others.

On the other hand, the Basilica is a large cemetery where more than 300 people are buried. Of course, the Basilica became very popular among tourists due to the fact that such famous persons as Michelangelo Galileo Galilei Bartolini Rossini Ogninsky and many others are buried here. But frankly speaking, we were not impressed by that fact. But I admit that it’s our purely subjective opinion.

As I have mentioned above in the description of the third day, we had a short rest after visiting Santa Croce and then continued our walk around the night time city near Republic Square (Piazza della Repubblica).

It was our last night in Florence. Next morning we set off for Rome.
