Parco Sempione, Milan’s urban park, provides a peaceful escape from the city’s busyness. With its beautiful landscapes, historical structures, and various attractions, it’s a must-visit for tourists. Here’s everything you need to know to plan your visit to Parco Sempione.

Overview and History

Parco Sempione is located in the heart of Milan, next to the iconic Castello Sforzesco. Established between 1890 and 1893, the park is designed in the style of an English landscape garden, with over 47 hectares of lawns, trees, and an artificial lake. It’s the perfect place for a leisurely stroll, a picnic, or simply enjoying nature.

Things to See

Castello Sforzesco

At the southeastern edge of the park stands Castello Sforzesco, a 14th-century castle that now houses several museums and art collections.

Arco della Pace

This triumphal arch, originally built in 1807 to commemorate Napoleon’s victories, was completed in 1838 to celebrate Italian unification. It’s located on the northwest side of the park.

La Triennale di Milano

This museum promotes fine arts and Italian avant-garde architecture. It hosts periodic international art exhibitions and is located within the park.

Inaugurated in 1806, this amphitheatre hosts concerts and sporting events. It’s also known as Arena Gianni Brera.

Torre Branca

For panoramic views of Milan, climb Torre Branca, an observation tower within the park.

Sculptures and Monuments

Don’t miss the various sculptures scattered throughout the park, including works by Francesco Barzaghi, Antonio Paradiso, Arman (Armand Pierre Fernandez), and Giorgio De Chirico.
