My love for Japan began the moment I arrived in Tokyo. The country amazed me with its harmony of ancient traditions, cutting-edge technology, breathtaking nature, and a culture unlike any other. Since then, Japan has become a part of my life, and I return there again and again. Today I help travelers discover the real Japan: I create personalized itineraries, give lectures, and prepare guests for their unforgettable journey. I would be delighted to open Japan for you too!

Rich Cultural and Natural Significance

As one of the “Three Great Waterfalls of Japan” alongside Nachi Falls (Wakayama Prefecture) and Fukuroda Falls (Ibaraki Prefecture), Kegon Falls has inspired poets and travelers alike. Its formation was a result of volcanic activity that created Lake Chuzenji (Lake Chuzenji), from which the waterfall originates.

What to See and Do at Kegon Falls

Two Viewing Platforms

  • Upper Free Observation Deck: Accessible without charge, this platform offers panoramic views of the waterfall from above.
  • Lower Observatory Deck: Take a 100-meter elevator (570 yen for adults) to experience the waterfall’s power up close. The platform provides stunning angles of the falls and the surrounding gorge.

Tips for Tourists

Best Time to Visit

  • Autumn (October): Mid to late October is peak foliage season and the most popular time to visit. Arrive early to avoid crowds.
  • Winter (December to February): Visit in the morning for the best chance to see frozen cascades.

Travel Essentials

  • Clothing: Comfortable walking shoes are essential. In winter, dress warmly to enjoy the icy landscapes.
  • Photography Tips: Overcast days enhance the contrast of the waterfall and surrounding foliage. Don’t forget a wide-angle lens for capturing the full grandeur of the falls.

Avoid Peak Congestion

The roads leading to Chuzenji Onsen can become crowded during peak seasons, particularly in autumn. Opt for an early-morning visit or consider weekday trips for a more tranquil experience.
