Villa Borghese is a large landscape garden in the naturalistic English manner. The park was designed in 1605 by Scipione Borghese, nephew of Pope Paul V on the site of former vineyard.

A few museums are currently housed in the Villa Borghese and the major one is the Borghese Gallery. It houses numerous artworks including sculptures of Bernini the patron of whom was Borghese.

As for us we were mostly interested in nature. The park contains a very picturesque lake which you can sail over on boat. In the middle of the park there is the temple of Aesculapius and a very interesting water clock.

Of course we could spend our time in another museum or see another attraction in Rome instead of the park. But we’ve never regretted the decision to visit Villa Borghese. It appeared to be a thoroughly enjoyable tour.

In around one hour and a half we made our way toward Piazza Napoleone which offers a breathtaking view of Piazza del Popolo and entire city. In the section “Photos of Rome£ you can view photos taken in Villa Borghese and Piazza Napoleone.

After the park we walked down to Piazza del Popolo.
