Nestled in the heart of South Tyrol, Lake Landro (Lago di Landro or Dürrensee) is a stunning alpine jewel surrounded by the majestic peaks of the Dolomites. This serene lake offers breathtaking views, tranquility, and a range of outdoor activities. Whether you are a hiker, cyclist, or simply seeking a peaceful retreat, Lake Landro is a must-visit destination.

Things to See and Do

Breathtaking Views and Photography

Lake Landro offers stunning panoramic views, particularly of the Cristallo mountain range. The lake’s turquoise waters provide a perfect foreground for your photos, especially during sunrise and sunset.

Hiking Around the Lake

A well-maintained path circles the lake, making it easy to explore on foot. The trail is suitable for families and offers multiple vantage points to admire the surrounding mountains. A notable viewpoint along the trail provides a spectacular view of the famous Tre Cime di Lavaredo.

Swimming and Relaxation

The lake’s northern shore features a pebble beach, perfect for sunbathing and picnics. The water, while cold, is inviting for a refreshing dip, especially on hot summer days. Be cautious as the lake bed can be slippery.

Cycling

For cycling enthusiasts, the area around Lake Landro offers scenic routes, including the popular Dobbiaco-Cortina MTB route in summer. These trails allow cyclists to fully immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the region.

Nearby Attractions

  • Tre Cime di Lavaredo: Just a short hike from the lake, these iconic peaks are a must-visit for nature lovers.
  • Dobbiaco and Lake Dobbiaco: A nearby town with additional scenic lakes and charming local culture.
  • Lake Braies: Another beautiful alpine lake, perfect for day trips.

How to Get There

Lake Landro is conveniently located in the Tre Cime Nature Park, approximately 7 km from Dobbiaco and near Cortina d’Ampezzo. The easiest way to reach the lake is by car, with ample free parking available along the road. If you are traveling from Venice, the lake is the first major one you will encounter in the region. For those who prefer public transport, bus line 444 from Dobbiaco stops right at the lake.
