Located in the peaceful landscapes of the Roman countryside, Lake Bracciano is a perfect getaway just 40 kilometers north of Rome. This volcanic lake, surrounded by charming towns like Bracciano, Trevignano Romano, and Anguillara Sabazia, is rich in history and natural beauty, offering travelers a tranquil escape.

Things to See and Do

Explore Bracciano Town

Begin your journey with a visit to Bracciano Castle, a magnificent medieval fortress that overlooks the lake. Take your time to explore the well-preserved interior, including the grand halls and panoramic views. It’s recommended to visit the castle on weekdays for a quieter experience.

Afterwards, take a leisurely stroll through Bracciano’s historic center, a delightful maze of narrow streets that radiate from the castle. Treat yourself to some artisanal gelato from Gelateria Picchio and meander down Via della Collegiata, Via della Sentinella, and Via Arazzaria for picturesque views and local dining options at places like Trattoria Da Regina.

Fall in Love with Trevignano Romano

For a more peaceful retreat, head to Trevignano Romano, known for its scenic lakeside promenade. Enjoy a cappuccino at Café Oltre Bar and explore the historic center, which is home to the Church of the Assumption with its Renaissance frescoes, as well as the ancient Orsini Fortress that offers panoramic views.

Discover Anguillara Sabazia

Step back in time while exploring Anguillara Sabazia, a town characterized by its medieval charm and cobblestone alleys. Visit the Town Hall, a former Baroque palace, and climb up to the Torrione Gardens for breathtaking views of the lake. Indulge in local cuisine at restaurants like Zaira, where you can savor fresh seafood and lake fish.
