Whether you want to explore ancient landmarks, stroll through narrow cobblestone streets, or enjoy a peaceful day at a café, Uzès has something for everyone.
Why Visit Uzès?
Uzès is often overlooked in comparison to its more famous neighbors such as Avignon and Nîmes. It is known for its well-preserved medieval streets, stunning limestone buildings, and lush surrounding landscape. Its small size makes it easy to tour in a few hours, but you will want to stay longer to fully appreciate its charm.
The town’s proximity to major tourist destinations such as the Pont du Gard and the beautiful Provence region makes it a great base for touring the South of France. The laid-back pace of life, combined with its rich history, offers visitors a truly unique experience.

Uzès is a town filled with hidden treasures. Here are some must-see attractions to make the most of your visit:
Herb Square
Herb Square, the center of Uzès, is a lively yet peaceful square surrounded by arcades built in the 17th century. Here you can enjoy the shade of the plane trees and watch the locals go about their daily lives. In summer, the square comes alive with outdoor markets selling fresh produce, crafts, and local specialties. Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy a cup of coffee or a meal at one of the many cafés and bistros around the square.
The Cathedral of Uzès (Cathédrale Saint-Théodorit)
One of the most important landmarks in Uzès is the stunning 12th-century Uzès Cathedral. However, the majority of the present building dates from the 17th century. The cathedral’s impressive façade and beautiful interior are a must-see, as is the bell tower La Tour Fenestral. This Romanesque round bell tower is unique to France and is a symbol of the town’s skyline.
La Tour Fenestral
Standing next to the cathedral, La Tour Fenestral is a 12th-century round bell tower, the only one of its kind in France. It is a magnificent Italian Romanesque structure, a testament to the historical importance of Uzès. The tower is built in a manner that gives the illusion of height, with the windows getting smaller as one goes up.

The Ducal Palace of Uzès (Château Ducal d’Uzès)
Uzès was once the site of the first dukedom of France, and the ducal château plays an important role in its history. The castle houses a museum that displays art and artifacts from various periods of French history. The architectural style of the castle is a blend of medieval, Gothic, and Renaissance styles, making it an interesting place for history and architecture buffs. The castle’s Gothic chapel, wine cellars, and apartments of Louis XIII to Louis XVI are also open to the public.
The Pont du Gard (Pont du Gard Aqueduct)
Just a stone’s throw from Uzès is the Pont du Gard, one of the world’s most remarkable Roman feats. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this ancient Roman aqueduct once carried water from natural springs in the area to the city of Nîmes. If you are visiting Uzès, this aqueduct is a must-see. It offers a glimpse into the Roman history of the area and a spectacular view of the surrounding countryside.
Medieval Garden and Pastry Museum (Musée du Bonbon)
For something a little different, don’t miss the medieval garden (Jardin Médiéval) and the nearby Candy Museum (Musée du Bonbon), dedicated to the history and traditions of confectionery making in Uzès. The gardens near the Château Ducal are a tranquil place to relax and admire the area’s natural beauty, while the Candy Museum offers a fun way to learn about the region’s confectionery traditions with your family.
