Nestled in the picturesque village of Parcines, the Cascata di Parcines (or Partschinser Wasserfall in German) is one of the most spectacular natural attractions in the Alps. This breathtaking waterfall, with a drop of nearly 100 meters, offers an unforgettable experience for nature enthusiasts and casual visitors alike. This guide provides essential tips and useful information for planning your visit to this stunning natural marvel.

Getting There

By Car: Visitors can park in Parcines Town and take the local bus to the waterfall for a small fee (3€ round trip). Alternatively, you can drive up closer to the waterfall and then walk uphill for 15-20 minutes. Parking is available at the car park near the Texelbahn cable car station.

By Public Transport: The area is well-connected with local buses. From Parcines, take bus 265 to Birkenwald. From there, it’s a short hike to the waterfall. Shuttle buses are also available, making it convenient for those who prefer not to walk.

By Foot: For those who enjoy hiking, the family-friendly trail from Parcines to the waterfall takes about 1.5 hours on foot. The scenic path offers beautiful views and follows along the watercourse, making for an enjoyable and immersive experience.

Things to See and Do

The Waterfall

The main attraction, of course, is the waterfall itself. Cascading down from a height of almost 100 meters, the waterfall is particularly impressive in early spring when the melting snow increases the water flow to as much as 6,000 liters per second. Depending on the time of day and weather conditions, you might even catch a rainbow in the mist.

Viewing Points

There are several viewing points where you can enjoy different perspectives of the waterfall. The most accessible viewpoint is near the top bus stop, offering close-up views and photo opportunities. For those who prefer a more secluded experience, the lower viewing points provide quieter spots to admire the falls.

Hiking Trails

Multiple hiking trails lead to and from the waterfall, catering to various fitness levels. The path from the Texelbahn mountain station is a popular route, taking you through lush forests and offering stunning alpine views. The Partschinser Waalweg trail is another scenic option, providing a gentle incline and shaded pathways.

Tips for Tourists

  • Early spring is ideal for witnessing the waterfall at its most powerful, thanks to the melting snow. For a quieter experience, visit on weekdays to avoid the weekend crowds.
  • Wear sturdy, comfortable shoes as the trails can be steep and uneven in places.
  • Restrooms are available at the parking lot and near the top bus stop. A small vending machine and a restaurant are also located near the waterfall.
  • While the paths are generally safe, some areas can be slippery. Ensure you are well-prepared and take care when navigating the trails.
