Borghetto

Frankly speaking, I didn’t find any information about this village on the Internet. But I can say for sure that though the village was very small it was one of the most beautiful places we visited during our trip. Even its small size is an advantage. As it is not possible to enter the village by car you have to park in a few dozen metres far from it. Immediately after you enter the village you plunge into unique atmosphere of the remote past.

The major sight of the village is the river. All the houses, shops and restaurants seem to rise out of the water. Of course the village is not as beautiful as Venice but still it is a special and exciting place.

On the one side of the bridge you will enjoy a pastoral panorama of the lake with beautiful swans, while on the other side you can admire the breathtaking view of the rapid river with its waters rushing and tumbling over cascades. Small houses with water mills that seem to rise out of the water add charm to the special atmosphere of old times.

Before our trip to Italy we were advised by someone to visit Antica Locanda Mincio. It’s the village restaurant that offers very tasty food. But to our pity we didn’t manage to visit it because like most of the establishments in Italy it was closed for the afternoon siesta from 3:00 p.m. till 6:00 p.m. Another reason for visiting the restaurant is its location amidst a splendid landscape right on the bank of the rapid river.

If you want to buy souvenirs there is another interesting place to visit. It’s the Soap factory shop that offers soap and many other aromatic products.

After a walk around Borghetto we made our way further towards Sirmione.
