Use public transport
I don’t recommend using taxis despite the fact the taxis in Tokyo are really nice and convenient but also some of the most expensive in the world, even Uber is just as expensive or even more expensive than city taxis.
Obey rules
Don’t smoke or eat while walking Tokyo streets. You will get fine for that. Smoking is allowed only in smoking zones.
Be ready to carry your garbage
Trash cans are very rare objects in Tokyo, better have a plastic bag with you to carry your garbage until you find a can. You can find a few of them in some public restrooms, some train stations and definitely in front of convenience/department stores.
Wake up early
Try to wake up earlier to visit must-see places in Tokyo before the crowd. Morning time is much better for that.
Tokyo Subway Tickets
If you plan to stay in Tokyo 1-2-3 days, a Tokyo Subway ticket is highly recommended (24h/48h/72h). It can be bought at airports, at Tokyo Metro Tourist Information counter (from 9 am to 5 pm) and other places you can check here

It is a small sushi bar where you can get one of the best sushi experiences in Tokyo. High quality, incredible taste, lovely atmosphere.
Gonpachi Nishi-Azabu (Kill Bill restaurant), $$ - moderate
1 Chome-13-11 Nishiazabu, Minato City, Tokyo 106-0031, Japan 〒106-0031 東京都港区西麻布1丁目13−11
Gonpachi restaurant is the location of one of the iconic scenes in Kill Bill. So if you're a fan of the movie, you'll appreciate it better than others. Besides that it is an amazing restaurant with delicious food, very authentic interior and many photos of Hollywood celebrities visiting this place.
Tokyo Solamachi
1 Chome-1-2 Oshiage, Sumida City, Tokyo 131-0045, Japan 〒131-0045 東京都墨田区押上1丁目1−2
Great place for souvenirs
DiverCity Tokyo Plaza
1 Chome-1-10 Aomi, Koto City, Tokyo 135-0064, Japan 〒135-0064 東京都江東区青海1丁目1−10
Very big mall and an amazing place for shopping, it is full of different stores and restaurants. The Unicorn Gundam in front of this Mall is definitely also a reason to check out the area!
Shibuya 109
2 Chome-29-1 Dogenzaka, Shibuya City, Tokyo 150-0043, Japan 〒150-0043 東京都渋谷区道玄坂2丁目29−1
A huge mall full of Japanese brand clothing, accessories and cosmetics. You can find very cheap and the most expensive things here at the same time.
First Avenue Tokyo Station
1 Chome-9-1 Marunouchi, Chiyoda City, Tokyo 100-0005, Japan 〒100-0005 東京都千代田区丸の内1丁目9−1

Yanaka Ginza is a delightful shopping street that takes you back to the old Tokyo scene. This charming street is lined with traditional shops, cafes, and restaurants, creating a unique and authentic atmosphere.
Nakamise-dori
1 Chome-36-3 Asakusa, Taito City, Tokyo 111-0032, Japan 〒111-0032 東京都台東区浅草1丁目36−3
A great and fun place for street food and souvenir shopping after Sensoji Shrine!
Ameyoko Shopping District
6 Chome-10 Ueno, Taito City, Tokyo 110-0005, Japan 〒110-0005 東京都台東区上野6丁目10
This street looks more like a traditional Japanese market. There are a lot of food stores and small drinking stores where you can chill with friends or family...
Ginza shopping district
銀座, Tokyo 104-0061
Ginza is Tokyo's first Western-style shopping district for sophisticated Tokyoites. It is a bustling upmarket area with rows of prestigious department stores like Mitsukoshi, high-end boutiques, art galleries and exclusive restaurants.
Toyosu Fish Market
6 Chome-6-2 Toyosu, Koto City, Tokyo 135-0061, Japan 〒135-0061 東京都江東区豊洲6丁目6−2
The iconic fish market is definitely worth visiting at least once to see the place with the freshest seafood ever and a unique tuna auction that starts at 5:30 am. Some restaurants are open as early as 5 am. It is highly recommended to have breakfast here.
Adachi Fisheries Market
50 Senjuhashidocho, Adachi City, Tokyo 120-0038, Japan 〒120-0038 東京都足立区千住橋戸町50
Unlike its far more famous counterparts like the former Tsukiji Market or its replacement, the Toyosu Fish Market, this market doesn’t suffer from unreasonable crowds. It is much smaller than Toyosu but it’s still great and authentic.
Tsukiji Nippon Fish Port Market
Japan, 〒104-0045 Tokyo, Chuo City, Tsukiji, 4 Chome−16番2号 千社額棟 1階 〒104-0045 東京都中央区築地4丁目16番2号 千社額棟 1階
Really nice market. Great place to wander around, taste extremely delicious street food and check the stores for fresh vegetables, fruits and certainly seafood.
Omoide Yokocho
1 Chome-2 Nishishinjuku, Shinjuku City, Tokyo 160-0023, Japan 〒160-0023 東京都新宿区西新宿1丁目2
It is located right next to Shinjuku Station on the west side. It’s not a market in the traditional sense, but it definitely feels like one, with its small stores, restaurants and izakaya.
Shinjuku Kabukicho is not only the largest red-light district in Japan, but also the biggest in the world. Also the Golden Gai area can be a bit dangerous at night due to many local bars and their drunk customers.
The Shibuya Station area and streets could also be a bit dangerous during Helloween. Following last year’s festivities a group of young people were arrested for toppling a small truck, and there were also reports of pickpocketing and groping.
Ikebukuro is considered Tokyo’s second-biggest red-light district (after Kabukicho in Shinjuku.) But even then, it is generally quite safe.
Roppongi is safe during the day, but if you decide to visit it at night, you need to be careful. The danger comes from the bars where there are a lot of drunk locals.
Hotel Grand Bach Tokyo Ginza
This hotel was very good. The facility and the service here was a 5 star hotel but it cost like a 4 star hotel. The location was very good if you like to go shopping around the Ginza area.
Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel Ginza
I adore this hotel for its comfortable rooms, very delicious breakfast and amazing location in Ginza. And I don’t understand why it is a 3-star having 5-star ambience.
Cyashitsu Ryokan Asakusa
A modern Ryokan or Japanese style hotel located in the middle of Asakusa infused with an elegant simplicity and aesthetic. It provided a very pleasant and calming type of accommodation in which to stay. The rooms, primarily to fit one or two people, are exquisite in their design and functionality. Making their size not a limiting factor. There has been a lot of thought put into the overall concept with the result that the meals, other amenities, and interiors are exquisite. It is a standout compared to other such hotels in Tokyo.

Nihonbashi Atelier by EAT8
2 Chome-12-7 Higashinihonbashi, Chuo City, Tokyo 103-0004, Japan 〒103-0004 東京都中央区東日本橋2丁目12−7
Here you will definitely have a great culinary experience in the friendly company of Momoka and Guillermo learning very simple but so beloved recipes such as home made guacamole, steaks, salads and even paella with local ingredients.
When is the best time to come to Tokyo?
Definitely not in Summer. Summer in Tokyo is hot & humid. You will go crazy with crowds, rain, high temperature and insects (!). Spring & Autumn are the best seasons to come. However, avoid October – it is a typhoon season. If you are looking for cherry blossoms, come in March or April. Winter is ok, but really windy.
Where to get cash in Tokyo?
Foreign cards may not work at Bank ATMs, but they WILL WORK at “7-Eleven” convenience stores. Most of the shops & restaurants don’t accept foreign credit cards as well and if you didn’t bring some cash in yen with you be sure to get them from your card at “7-Eleven”. Yes, Japan is a cash country.
Where to stay in Tokyo (budget and non-budget options)?
Let me divide this question into 2 parts. First of all I recommend that you stay in those areas that we can call transit hubs, so you can get around easily. These hubs are: Shinjuku, Tokyo station, Shibuya, Ginza, Tokyo Skytree areas, for instance.
Regarding accommodation for those who want special experience or need budget options I would recommend staying in capsule hotels or well located hostels. Don’t be afraid of such a type of accommodation if you are on a budget trip. Hostels and capsule hotels in Japan are very clean, quite comfortable and definitely good value for money.
If you can afford more pricey accommodation then choose hotels, but I prefer traditional Japanese ryokans anywhere in Japan. It is a completely unique experience you can’t get anywhere in the world. Ryokan is a traditional Japanese wooden house (usually old) where you will communicate with its owner during your stay, sleep on the Japanese futon, use Japanese baths, touch Japanese culture and home life.
04
What is truly Japanese to try in Tokyo (food & non-food experience)?
Once you are in Japan try to skip places, things, food that you can get somewhere else. Japan is unique and voluminous. It offers hundreds of exquisite experiences. Try at least few of them in Tokyo:
05
Where to eat in Tokyo if you are a budget tourist?
Restaurants in Tokyo are a bit pricey, but I don’t recommend saving money on food. There is no other place in the world where you can taste such fresh & delicious food as in Japan. But anyway you can have great street food in Tokyo saving money. I recommend Yurakucho hidden izakaya street (a kind of seafood court just nearby the train station). Cozy, unique, delicious place to be visited. Or Nakamise Dori in Asakusa (in front of Sensoji temple). Another way to save money is sushi-conveyor restaurant.
06
Are smart cards Suica or Pasmo efficient and worth buying?
Yes, these cards are really efficient. You can use them for all trains, subways and buses in Tokyo, at many shops, especially convenience stores.
Buy Pasmo cards from vending machines at subway stations in Tokyo or at Narita/Haneda airport train stations. Buy Suica at JR stations in Tokyo or at Narita/Haneda train stations or online here

Crystalina created a great itinerary that included excellent parking locations near the attractions, making everything simple and fun for us. It's important to note that the itinerary was built in accordance with the questionnaire we filled out and was adapted to our family's interests, saving us a lot of time that we would have otherwise spent on searching and planning.

We can't recommend Anna enough! She is a true expert on Japan and helped us plan a trip that was unforgettable. Her attention to detail and personalized recommendations made all the difference. We can't wait to use her services again in the future.
Savannah Price
We paid in advance for a customized travel itinerary from Anna. While the initial itinerary was well thought out and included some great suggestions, we didn't feel as though we received much support during the actual trip. Although Anna did send us recommendations for accommodations and some changes to the itinerary, it didn't completely meet our needs. While the service was friendly, in the future we may choose to plan our travels on our own.
Ryan Jones
Our dream trip to Tokyo(Japan) and the lakes was expertly planned by Anna. We had a fantastic time exploring the beautiful scenery and enjoying the local cuisine. Anna was always available to answer any questions we had during the trip, and her patience and attention to detail were truly remarkable. We can't wait to plan our next adventure with her!

Her service was definitely worth the price and we highly recommend her to anyone planning a trip to Japan.
Sophia Wilson
