Additional information

The Museo Archeologico dell’Alto Adige (South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology) is a museum located in Bolzano, Italy, that is dedicated to the archaeological findings and history of the region of South Tyrol. The museum is best known for hosting Ötzi the Iceman, a 5,300-year-old mummy that was found in the nearby Ötztal Alps in 1991. Ötzi is one of the most significant archaeological finds of the 20th century and the museum is the only place in the world where visitors can see him in person.

Apart from Ötzi, the museum has a collection of prehistoric and early historic finds, including weapons, tools, jewelry, and other objects that have been discovered in South Tyrol. The exhibits cover the period from the Neolithic Age to the early Middle Ages and illustrate the cultural and social development of the region over time. The museum also has a multimedia section that explains the scientific analysis and reconstruction of Ötzi’s life and death. Visitors can learn about the clothing, equipment, and weapons used by Ötzi and get an insight into his diet, health, and living conditions.
