Historical Significance

The coastal area, dating back to the 1st century BC, was once inhabited by opulent Roman villas. One of the most remarkable villas was the Villa of Pausilypon, constructed by the Roman official Publio Vedio Pollio. Following Pollio’s death, it became an Imperial villa. Today, visitors can see remnants of this grand estate, including tuff quarries, landings, nymphaeums, and fish ponds, both above and below the water’s surface, thanks to the phenomenon of bradyseism.

Natural Beauty and Marine Life

The park is a unique blend of volcanic, biological, and historical-archaeological features. The tall cliffs made of Neapolitan Yellow Tuff, shaped by erosion and covered in Mediterranean vegetation, offer breathtaking views. The intricate seabed and favorable marine currents have created a rich ecosystem. Octopuses, bream, moray eels, and various other marine species thrive among the ancient ruins, bringing vibrant life and color to the underwater landscape.
