The gardens were created in the mid-17th century as part of the Royal Palace of Turin, which was the residence of the House of Savoy, the ruling family of the Kingdom of Sardinia.

The gardens were designed in the Baroque style and feature a series of terraces, fountains, and statuary. The central feature of the gardens is the Fountain of the Stag, which was designed by the architect Filippo Juvarra in the early 18th century.

In addition to the gardens, the Royal Palace of Turin also features a number of other attractions, including the Royal Armoury, the Royal Library, and the Chapel of the Holy Shroud, which houses the famous Shroud of Turin.
