Sections:
Fontana dei Tritoni
One of the main highlights of the Giardini Reali is the Fontana dei Tritoni. Created in the mid-18th century by Simone Martinez, this magnificent fountain features marble statues of tritons and a nereide, all part of Poseidon’s mythological entourage. The figures, portrayed playing with fish and blowing conch shells, create a vibrant aquatic scene amidst the splashing water.
The Weeping Beech (Faggio Pendulo)
Situated in the Giardino di Levante, the rare weeping beech (Fagus sylvatica pendula) is another must-see attraction. Planted in the late 19th century, this majestic tree is remarkable for its branches that touch the ground and take root, forming new trunks. It is considered one of the oldest and most splendid specimens in Piemonte.
Giardino Ducale and Giardino delle Arti
The Giardino Ducale, the oldest section of the Giardini Reali, showcases a central fountain surrounded by granite slabs from the 17th-century Chapelle de la Sainte-Suaire. The Giardino delle Arti, designed by André Le Nôtre, offers a stunning perspective leading to the Fontana delle Nereide e Tritoni, another exquisite creation by Simone Martinez.
The Boschetto
In the north-east section, the Boschetto features a lush undergrowth of shade plants, shrubs, and herbaceous flora, arranged in formal flowerbeds. This area also houses the installation “Pietre Preziose” by Giulio Paolini, crafted from the original marbles damaged by fire from the Chapelle de la Sainte-Suaire.
Public Transport: The Giardini Reali are easily accessible by public transport. Take the metro or tram to the Piazza Castello stop, which is just a short walk from the gardens.
By Car: If you’re driving, parking is available near Piazza Castello, though spaces can be limited.
