Historical Background

Originally a flat piece of land owned by the Dugnani family and used for vegetable gardens, the area was transformed into a public park in 1780 by Archduke Ferdinand, who commissioned architect Giuseppe Piermarini. Initially designed in the style of a French garden, with geometric flower beds and broad tree-lined avenues, it was later expanded and modified in the style of English landscapes, featuring hills, streams, and artificial lakes.
