The church was enlarged and renovated in the 13th century, and was further expanded in the 14th and 15th centuries. The interior features a nave and two aisles, with 18th-century frescoes adorning the vaulted ceiling.

The church is also notable for its collection of artworks, including a 15th-century painting of the Madonna and Child with Saints by Lorenzo di Credi, and a 14th-century triptych by Taddeo Gaddi.
