Construction of the cathedral began in 1296 and lasted for over 140 years, with many notable architects and artists involved in the project over the centuries. The cathedral’s Gothic-style facade is made of white, green, and pink marble, with intricate carvings and reliefs depicting religious scenes.

The cathedral’s interior is equally impressive, with stunning frescoes, mosaics, and stained glass windows. The cathedral also contains several notable works of art, including a sculpture of Mary Magdalene by Donatello and a painting of the Last Judgment by Giorgio Vasari and Federico Zuccari.

Visitors to the cathedral can climb to the top of the dome for breathtaking views of Florence, or visit the Baptistry, which is located in front of the cathedral and contains stunning bronze doors created by Lorenzo Ghiberti.
