Notre-Dame de Paris construction of the cathedral began in 1163 and was completed nearly 200 years later in 1345. Over the centuries, it has been the site of numerous significant events, including the coronation of Napoleon Bonaparte as Emperor of France in 1804.

The cathedral’s interior features a magnificent rose window and a number of other stained glass windows, along with sculptures, paintings, and other works of art. Perhaps its most famous feature is the massive bell known as “Emmanuel,” which weighs over 13 tons and is rung on special occasions.

In 2019, Notre-Dame suffered a devastating fire that caused significant damage to the roof and interior of the cathedral. Restoration efforts are currently underway to repair the damage and preserve this iconic landmark for future generations.

Despite the damage, Notre-Dame de Paris remains an important symbol of French history and culture. It continues to draw visitors from around the world, who come to marvel at its stunning architecture and learn about its rich history.
