Cluny Abbey, also known as the Abbey of Cluny, was a Benedictine monastery in Cluny, Saône-et-Loire, France. It was founded in the late 10th century and became the largest and most important monastery in Europe in the 12th century, with a network of over 1,000 dependent monasteries throughout Europe.

The abbey was famous for its religious reform movement, known as the Cluniac Reforms, which sought to restore the monastic way of life to its original purity and rigor. The abbey also played an important role in the political and cultural life of medieval Europe, and its library was renowned as one of the greatest in Europe.

The original abbey was destroyed during the French Revolution, but parts of the complex, including the church and the abbot’s palace, still stand and are open to visitors. The church is notable for its Romanesque architecture and for its vast size, which made it one of the largest churches in Europe when it was built. The abbey is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
