It was built in the 17th century in the Baroque style, replacing a previous chapel that had been destroyed during the Hundred Years’ War. The chapel has been the site of many important events in French history, including a royal visit by King Louis XIII in 1638, and was also used as a military hospital during World War I.

Today, the chapel is a popular tourist destination and a site for pilgrimages. Visitors can climb the 122 steps to the top of the hill and enjoy panoramic views of Honfleur and the surrounding countryside. The interior of the chapel is richly decorated with marble, paintings, and sculptures, including a statue of the Virgin Mary that is believed to have miraculous powers. The chapel is also known for its annual festival, held in September, which features a procession through the streets of Honfleur and a blessing of the boats in the harbor.
