The Aqueduct of Barbegal is an ancient Roman aqueduct located in southern France, near the town of Fontvieille. It is considered one of the most impressive examples of Roman engineering, and was built in the 2nd century AD to supply water to the nearby city of Arles.

What makes the Aqueduct of Barbegal particularly remarkable is the fact that it was used to power a complex system of water mills, which were used to grind grain and produce flour. The aqueduct fed water into a large reservoir, which in turn fed a series of vertical water wheels. The water wheels were connected to the millstones by a system of gears and shafts, which allowed them to rotate and grind the grain.

At its peak, the Aqueduct of Barbegal was capable of producing up to 4.5 tons of flour per day, making it one of the largest and most productive mills of its time. Today, visitors can explore the ruins of the aqueduct and the water mills, which are still visible in the surrounding countryside.
